So I just did a bit of window shopping.

Absolutely no intention to buy a puppy, however found GSD's around £700, border collies about £600 and lurchers about the same.

I know these prices are still higher than two years back, but it was refreshing to see puppies that weren't a four figure price tag!

But why are they now so cheap? 2 people I know just bought from the same litter, gsds for £1K. Call me suspicious, but I’ll bet they’re not health tested/registered. Beautiful looking puppies.

Just looked at Pets4homes for my breed, first two pages, all puppies are £1K or under! I’m amazed! Not that I’m looking, but I love looking at adverts. Is it wrong that I’m suspicious of adverts in Carmarthen-isn’t that where the highest concentration of legal puppy farms is?

There’s a lot unsold too. I’m seeing pups for sale on fb now, after nothing being about.
Anyone tardy putting their bitch in won’t be raking it in like they hoped.

They possibly still will be. Even at £500 a pup im assuming there's still money to be made :(

I think loads of owners have 'jumped' on the puppy thing because its been well advertised lately. Owners who have probably never even considered it before are now aware that there is money to be made from there pet.

Prices are probably dropping due to the number of puppies around?

that's what my vet told me. Clients who would never have considered pups jumped on the bandwagon when they saw money could be made and just for the money. Also the number of vaccines they had gone through in lockdown. What they normally ordered for a month was gone in a week plus the people who had got a new pup were people who would never have bought one before. He was quite amazed what had been happening.

An acquaintance of mine who is no longer able to work due to illness bred from her dog this year purely to make money. Six puppies and she sold them for £3000 each, they all had homes before they were born.

One rescue near me were saying that they have had a lot of young dogs handed in who are untrained and unsocialised which makes them harder to rehome.

ETA to change a spelling mistake.

I have a 16 week pup, and have been so surprised by the amount of people that have asked me if I'm having a litter from her (with my entire terrible rescue terrier!). Errrrrrrrrrr NO! I have planned first season with a friend who only has bitches and then straight in for her spay. People seem genuinely surprised, and the price of puppies is mentioned in a "aren't you tempted" sort of way. No no no.

The number of people who said to me ‘I bet you wish you hadn’t had your bitches spayed’. Mind you they are well bred and no one seemed to mind no health tests, if they’d had 8 pups each @£2000 a pup… £48000 ?. That’s not maximising my profit as I haven’t included the twelve year old. Dammit!
