Ok what is a rough price you charge diyer’s for

1 turnout. My fields close to yard so not much walking I charge £1,But £1.5 with rug change.so taking off stable and put turnout on or fly rug.

putting hay nets in

A already made up. £1
B. You have to make up and put in. £1.50

Mucking out. £4

fly hoods £0. I don’t charge

boots per pair per day £ 1


I haven’t change these for years so just wondering if I am undercharging.

Agree with IHW, I'd pay £2 for TO but some of our fields are a bit of a walk, and I think £6 for muck out but I've never used it as an individual service, only part of full livery which I think is £10 p/day
 
I used to pay £3.50 for turnout/bring in which included feet picked out and rug changes. If I wanted him mucked out it was £12.
 
With my business management hat on, I think you are approaching this the wrong way.
I think you should think about what sort of hourly wage you will pay yourself - then work out how much of your time each of these tasks takes.
So maybe £10 an hour wage - and turning a horse out will take 15 mins so £2.50. Half an hour to muck out - £5 etc.

If you have care, custody and control insurance, you need to factor this in to your pricing for when you’re handling clients horses. I charge:
T/O only £1.50
Bring in only £2.00
Rug change £1
Full service £9.00

Frankly, I think I’m too cheap, but I’m running more of a hobby business, so keep prices low. We spend thousands of pounds every year on updating facilities and maintenance, but our farm business funds that, and my husband does almost all the work himself which save us a small fortune. If we had to pay someone, we wouldn’t manage financially ?‍♀️

My rates are higher at weekends and bank hols, but that’s more because I’m trying to discourage people!??
 
I get charged £3 for bring in/turn out but that includes rug change, flymask/muzzle, fly spray etc. We don’t get charged per service but there is option to have them skipped out, made up feeds and nets put in + water topped up OR same but full muck out and feed and hay done by yard. Suits those who need occasional assistance verses holiday cover when owner isn’t there to pick up some tasks
 
You might want to think about slightly lower rates for regular services vs ad-hoc. For example if you wanted turnout Mon-fri it would be £10 but if you had a single turn out at short notice it would be £2.50.

I used to pay £12 a day for a days livery service inc. t/o b/I feed and muck out, check over, rugs per day. This was on top of monthly livery and buying my own feed and bedding.
 
our yard owner doesn't offer livery services himself, instead there is a small team of liveries who 'job share' and offer services instead. it is slightly steep, for example full livery is £15 a day. turn out £2.50 a day etc. it is expensive after livery/rent and buying your bedding etc etc. but the way I look at it is, this is their income and if you take into account things like insurance, petrol etc it really isn't that much they are earning. it's hard work doing livery, I did it myself for about a year while I was in uni to earn some money to help towards my livery, general expenses etc (food, travel). I tend to just use the turn out service but its nice to be able to have the option of full livery, should I ever need it!
 
Agree with "Shilasdair" re a more Businesslike approach and ensuring that you charge a realistic fee for the services you provide. £10 per hour divvied up over an hour, is a good place to start. If your liveries pull a face about it then you need not apologise as they are quite free to take themselves to somewhere else if what you are offering doesn't suit!!

I think OP you really DO need to look again at what you provide and how much you charge for it or else you are going to be not only seriously out of pocket but taken advantage of to boot, bigtime.

Because you turn out at the gate but might have to go looking for a horse. Our geldings have 2 interconnected fields, they might be at the far end of the 2nd one at catch in time.

Only mine comes to call and then only for people he‘s used to. It took the groom/yo an hour to get him the one time I asked the yard to catch in, although he lets himself be caught by pretty much anyone these days.

There’s an 18hh that took 20 minutes to agree to come in the other day. He’s a handful!

Alright - I'm now fully aware that I'm incredibly lazy. :p My two wait for me at the nearest point , and at the moment I'm far too idle even to put a headcollar on them to drug one or change rugs. Clearly I have inertia down to an art form compared to all of you enthusiastic horse fetchers. :D

No, I’m awful. If Beau is within screaming distance, he comes. I won’t go across the field, it horrifies me to be in that field (the boys swapped into the field where I had my accident a few years back) and my knee doesn’t cope with bumpy fields. I put on my loudest teacher voice and just holler!

I think turnout out and catch in are £3.50 at my place, muck out £7. I never use yard services, so I might be out of date.

Are you having a rule that only you as in owner can do services or are you letting others work together ?

My business head says only owner or yard, but would you be able to cope with all requests ? I would also put a late charge uplift unless a one off emergency situation as my mate used to pop horse on bring in or livery at half 5 at night and muggins used to end up doing it when yard got fed up.
