LETS TALK PRICES!

Ok so!!….. trying to work out pricing for things as a self employed person is really difficult.. especially a new service… on the one hand you don’t want to under price yourself taking into account fuel prices etc.. also not wanting to under charge and therefore take away from other folk that charge more than you making you look bad!…
And obviously you don’t want to over charge and be ridiculed for it.. which definitely happens in this industry.. 🥴

Bearing in mind the minimum wage is £11.44 per hour for over 21 years old!

I would genuinely like honest opinions on this.

What would be considered reasonable for the following services? What would you pay individually for each?

I have had a look but can only see discussions from 2012 re this.

Mucking out a stable
Turn in/out
Poo picking visit
Rug change
Feeding
Grooming
Hold for Vet

Thanks!

When I go away, I still pay my lovely freelancer £15 per visit to do:-
2 x Mucking out a stable OR poo pick
Turn in/out
Rug change if required/ fly rug/mask change
Feed as required
Daily feet pick out x 2 and check over for cuts etc.

Takes about 30 mins in the morning and around 20 mins PM. I leave everything ready - feeds made up and hay nets filled etc.
It works out fine unless mid winter - when just about 'everyone' wants theirs in and out at similar times. I'm fortunate she drives past the end of my yard track to hers.

I pay my freelancer £10 a visit but she is a friend and drives past my house 3 times a day. For 2 Arab's that mainly live out.

Hay and feed in morning clear hardstanding.

Hay evening rugs changed if needed and skip stables if they have been in.

Fly spray, feet pick all the necessary everyday stuff making up nets.

I make up the feeds in sandwich bags so she just adds the beet.

I use a freelancer one morning a week and pay £15 per visit. In winter they are fed, rugged if necessary, turned out, stables cleared of poo as I deep litter during the week, water buckets and feed buckets washed and stacked.

In summer they are out 24/7 and are fed, hayed, feed buckets washed and the track poo picked.

I make up feeds the night before and leave hay in the summer in trugs ready to put out.

I always get a photo of them eating breakfast with a quick message to say they are both ok.

I paid £15 per hour. - it was worded in a way that you had to pay an hour minimum despite how long it took so it was worth persons time.

It took from 30-45 mins - feed horses in field (just add water as ready made), pick out hooves, turn on tap to fill bath, poo pick 1 to 3 acres for 2 horses (it depended on time of year as to what they were on).
