no, was going to as it only about 30 minutes from me but im working, unless my boss is going and we get the yard done early enough, but its highly unlikly.
maybe when its been and gone the "travalers" will leave our area
Oh god is it really tomorrow? My horse came from there last year and is off to the vets tomorrow for a very frank 'has he got a hope of getting better' examination. What a horrid coincidence
After living and working far too close to the place - i am glad i am missing it this year. My friend has had her yard on lock down for th elast 2 weeks!!!! Anyone for very overweight teenagers walking round in plastic see thru stilletoes in mud!!! that was th elasting vision i have!!!!
We are only 15 minutes away. I am planning to go as soon as I eventually get the kids up and dressed! Hubby has scuppered any purchasing plans by hiding the trailer keys!
We really needed to adjust our sensitivities as there were some very sorry looking horses and ponies tied to lorries.
We bought a few bits of tack, but no horses. Interestingly, as the day went on a few much nicer looking animals started to appear. I was surprised at the number of Shetlands and Shetland foals and I did see one or two 'moments' where kids ran up to tethered horses, expecting to be able to pet them. Nothing dangerous, but a few very frightened looking ponies.
Fascinating day though, large ladies and gents, tattoos, fashion victims, horses and all.
Had a good day too. Agree NeilM, a few skinny horses there that really shouldn't look that poor at this time of year, but the majority looked well which is refreshing change, I've seen much worse there in the past. And some alarmingly overweight!! My YO almost bought a rather nice black yearling but was dragged away by her husband at the last moment. Shame, nice little pony, £250, could have haggled them down. No sign of the RSPCA, did you see them Neil?
No sign of the RSPCA but there was a pretty obvious Police presence.
There was a nice looking Appaloosa at the top of the field. Young and very spooky and my OH spotted a nice bay cob which was shod and in good condition.
Did you see the guy selling various items of tack for £2.00 per item? We bought a couple of bridles that have come up very nicely.
It was a bit of a culture shock though, and I'm not surprised there were so many amateur photographers, there were some real characters about.
The seller was a local Mendip chap, and by the look of it I would think that what he was selling was the remnants of a closed trekking centre or riding school.

Sorry Neil
Making assumptions--but the Stolen Tack situation in some areas is dire
My Community Policeman who started Horsewatch with me in this area predicted things would get worse in a recession.
I didn't see the RSPCA either, unless they were in the sheep field. or at the burger stall....The tack that was on sale, you had to look hard to find a bargain(well done Neil), I checked out about a dozen saddles and none of them were postcode ID'd in any way. That's not to say they'd not been knocked off, but unless people get their tack marked it's hard to tell.
Cuffey, I don't doubt you are right, but anyone who was selling stolen goods at Priddy would have been putting their neck on the block, as there was a visible Police presence, including two mounted officers, who spent some time in the horse / tack sales area.
