Pride comes before a fall: A debut tale!

Top hats have to fit. I will never wear a crash hat with my tails; if I fall off at that level I deserve to land on me head :-)

 Well there us that , I never feel unsafe on Topaz ever now, she's such a good egg despite being a tense drama llama sometimes! It's funny I never gave the fit of the hat a second thought as I've already worn it so much, but it was definitely vanity and feeling that we'd made it :).

Wig tape, or any double sided sticky tape, will give you that extra grip if it's a worry. I haven't worn my topper for years now, but often have to don strange headgear as part of my job and that's what keeps things secure, as well as flesh-coloured ties. Some historical hats are like trying to ride with a giant pizza strapped to your head.

Thanks j1ffy :), itching to have another go now!

LOL Cortez, I dread to think I had enough trouble with a seemingly well fitting top hat .

Thanks rosiesowner :).

Well done - I really enjoyed the video, so thanks for posting!!

Ref the hat, another option to make it a snugger fit is to use self adhesive Velcro (the soft "loop" side and not the scratchy "hook" side!), and stick that on the hat band inside your hat at the front/back, or all round if there's enough space. You can get it very cheaply off ebay in black so it wouldn't show.

Thank you, was a bit nervous of putting the vid up, as the only actual advanced bit we messed up, but never mind lol.

Oh this might be a good shout actually, as it was the back that kept lifting, so the soft loop might give goo purchase on my hair without balding me :o!

I've rewatched the video in more detail and can I just say, what excellent sitting trot - you can see that she is not easy to sit to! Also there's a lovely moment at the 5.30-6.00 mark where in the background you can see a bay do a rather enthusiastic change and it made me laugh. As I said before, a fantastic debut. Such an accurate test, Topaz was so well behaved when your hat fell off and I'm not surprised that you can't wait to do it all again (with a hat that stays on this time...)

Ah thank you that is ever so kind of you to say, sitting trot I still feel I move too much :o I'm not quite strong enough through my core for the slightly off moments that still happen. She is bouncy with big paces, but the more engaged I have her, the softer over the back she is and the easier to sit to she is I just need to keep it all flowing more. I was very impressed that she didn't go scooting off when it bounced off her bum :o:lol:.

I will do some riding at home with my new top hat (grey :biggrin3), but if I can't make it stay on I'll have to forgo it for my normal hat :(, though maybe this means I shold get a swanky fancy grey hat as a way to make it up to myself ;)..
