Slightly pointless post but i'm bored.!
Finally the new boy Pride went in the same field with his brother and Hovis' two field companions this morning.
After lots of booting up delicate legs, attaching neck pieces firmly to protect throats (Note - hovis went in as normal as nothing fits him in the boot or neck piece department!!) the four of them were unleashed..........
It was one of the most boring and civilised intros i have ever seen. Partly due to the thick fog it took the 3 of them 5 minutes to realise Pride was even there. I was impressed that Pride didn't wet himself as the vast shape of the Destroyer hurtled at him out of the gloom!
I also know he's grown up in individual turnout so it seems like he doesn't know how to play with the others. Cue a comedy moment with them all hooning round like loons and him stood in the middle of the field looking a little baffled with a "What am I supposed to do now then?!" expression. It was sort of sad as Hov tried to get him to play "I'm a stallion" and Pride clearly didn't know what to do. They are the same age and the difference in playfulness is huge. Hovis at this point wandered back to me in disgust.
So the new boy is in with no incident - tomorrow Hovis and he are going on a hack together. So fingers crossed this is the start of good things for hubby and his new boy

You may find with Pride that it does not take him long to pick up the art of stallion fighting. Cairo and Chancer were at it all the time, and there was 19 years difference in their age and Cairo had never done this before. Stinky gave him a new lease of life and he turned into a two year old with me sometimes cringing at the old joints barrel racing with his mate, but we decided better he have such huge fun and possible have an injury than potter around like an old man.

Farra is not as playful as Cairo, even though she is the same age - but after a few weeks, she did start to play far more. The first one being racing Stinky in a narrow strip with Andy running for his life in front of them as he knew she wouldn't stop in time before they got to him. He was right, he managed to get out of the way as she overshot him by 6'. Being an evil wife I was cross legged and laughing.

Stinky also demanded that he groomed her from the start and she immediately realised that this was nice and they now groom each other all the time.

Next post will be that they were stallion fighting and have scrapes and bumps, and then they realise how hard they can go without injury and settle down.

I hope he is all you want and a nice brother for Hovis.

Vardi had had little group turnout before. Then I moved to another yard and he was turned out with two other horses and developed all his full stallion fighting skills and the scars to prove it!

I have recently moved him again and he is now turned out with 3 other boys of the same age (they are known as the Hooligans Herd) and yes we have destroyed rugs and given the odd nip but the playing seems to end relatively quickly and grazing is in earnest, they all seem very happy together.

Enjoy having your rugs in one piece and being bite and nip free Pride will get the message soon enough
