Was talking to a lady in joining stable at the PC champs about daughters horse being off since April with poor prognosis who knew someone that was putting an event horse up for loan.

Little did she know of the bad news we received yesterday that my daughter (away at PC camp) is yet to recieve that they can do no more for our boy - but today the owner called with more details perhaps perfect timing, it is yet to be seen as R may say too soon for another horse. I don't know what will be right give her time or give her something else to concentrate on.

Anyway whilst I fathom that out the horse is an 8yo mare by Primitive Rising, who can be bolshy on the flat but is a good competition horse if well ridden - anyone know anything about his offspring?

Was really going to buy in the future -indeed due to meet up with O_B about potential horse but guess need to keep all options open in the meantime just in case does not work out.

Any info appreciated, glass of Blackberry gin for anyone who fancies a tipple sorry turned out quite long.

there are very good ones, and some horrors. their show jumping can be a bit by braile! they usually move well though. we have 2 by primitive faerie tale who is advanced.

The only one I knew had persitent tantrums and continuously put the rider on the floor! Think they are all different though.

Just remember the mare in the input too! What was she like to ride and handle!

All the foals i have bred have had there mothers ways and temperaments! (which is a good thing!)

I've had the pleasure of riding/ competing one for the last 10 years on and off. She was 18 this year but sadly we lost her to colic

She was the most wonderful horse, such a lovely personality and really genuine.

Competed her upto BE Novice but yes, she did SJ by braile! She was the bravest XC horse I've ever ridden and probably ever will tbh.

The only thing was she was a bit clingy when taken out with another horse- this is common with them I think as WFP said the same of all of his in a lecture/ demo he did. Ask her to get on with a bit of work though and she soon forgot about her mate back at the lorry!

Can't sing her praises enough but everyone else says, they're all individual!

I know a little mare - only about 15.3 who is super. She jumps off any stride and is very well mannered.

I think some of that is her rider though who has worked very hard, but she does seem to have a lovely temperament.

The big bay who I posted pics of (I remember you commenting!) is a PR baby... Very big jump, very talented and genuine... but also very quirky! On the flat he gets to a point when you increase the pressure and then he throws all toys out and reins back a ridiculous amount, then gives in and does some lovely work. In work in arenas when another horse comes towards him he spins in the opposite direction and starts bucking/tries to kick other horses... To SJ he is so unorthadox in his style, but he gives 110% not to touch a pole. XC he's a git in start boxes, and is over emotional about water in ears/jumps into water like a complete numpty... He's a pain to take places as he screams at other horses, he kicks the lorry to pieces and he has made a dent in the wall on the yard where he digs when you're not paying attention to him, he rolls so exhuberantly in the stable he keeps getting cast (yep it's a very big stable!)... Would I have another one? Any day! He's ultimately safe and looks after me xc like no other horse I've sat on... He never says no unless he has a genuine reason, he does try on the flat he just finds it difficult, he's so easy to get/keep fit and loves working, and SJ well if I stay out of his way he just leaves them up for me

Well ours is by Primitive Rising and could have been amazing had he not been bored senseless in the showring for 6 years!!! He is 17.1hh and VERY lazy. He's done a bit of eventing but can be a real wuss at times.

In general though, I believe Primitive Rising offspring are relatively good?!

I've had two!!!

1st was exactly like littlepinkpiggies describes she evented up until she was 18 she was totally safe xc (perfect junior horse as she acted more like a pony than a horse) and her dressage was insane (at pc open level we were always sub 22 dressage)

2nd is the one i have at the moment: soooooooooo talented just doesnt always use her talent (normally SJ wise she knows they knock down/ doesn't respect anything below 1.10m) shes a little more tricky stable wise: hates being by herself if she travels with someone (when shes the only one going to an event shes fine) probably more mareish too and its took us a long time to get competitive/ gel

i'd still get another though

My current mare is by Primitive Star (who was by Primitive Rising) and she is an absolute superstar. Ok, she's a bit quirky - but will jump the moon and has lovely paces. The breeder who I bought her off used to use Primitive rising until he passed - now he uses Primitive Proposal and Primtive Star, and they are always extremely successful.

My last horse was by Primitive Rising and was also a little quirky, but 5 years in the showring blew his brains - he had beautiful paces, and eventually turned his hand to a little bit of eventing - didn't have great technique SJ though.

I have just given back the PR mare I had on loan for 9 months.

Stable manners impecable - bit daft about silly things but mostly 100% genuine and unflapable.

Dressage - hated it - could work but chose not to.

SJ - jumped anything off any stride but could knock up cricket score almost without her realising

XC & Huntin - amazing - best I have ever ridden!

I helped to back a primitive rising mare a few summers ago. I was warned to be careful as they have a reputation for being sharp, but she was very good. Pretty laid back about the whole thing, we got as far as cantering in the school with no problems, but unfortunately she pulled a ligament in her hip in the field and was put into foal I think. Hope that's relevant!

We have a mare at our yard. She is owned by a complete novice with crazy ideas and looks after her very well- can be speedy into show jumps and not the most careful but completely safe, and would be a different horse in better hands.
She has evented to novice and has points, and when ridden properly is a good looking mare.
Eventing Ireland website gives average points scored by horses by Primitive Rising as 99- which is either very high or wrong!!!!
