Evening everyone ,

After a little of advice please have 4 stables on private family land , have field access directly out from stables and can be put for a unlimited time grazing . As much or as little the person wants .

I have been asked for 3 horses what I would charge for 3 days full livery and following week 4 days alternating each week and they would then do the rest they have asked me to include hay within the price but myt do it sperate as will be based on what size kg nets they have .

Can I ask what people are or would expect to pay for stable , unlimited grazing, water , electric,field poo picked . With the view that 3 days would be full livery and the rest DIY ?? This is in longridge.

Assuming you are mucking out on your days? I would charge a basic DIY rate per horse of approx £150 to £180 per month (but possibly more if poo picking - at my yard I harrow to avoid this!) plus approx £15 per day for turn out, bring in, feed, give hay, muck out. Personally I don’t change rugs but consider a bit extra for this. Hay on top depends on how much they eat of course and the current hay price so you’d need to work this out. At the moment I charge about £170 a month for hay for big horses based on 1/3 of a bale twice per day (my small bales are now £8). Plus the cost of feed if you are supplying.
 
Id definitely charge separately for the hay if you are not in control of how much is used /wasted all the time.

Look into insurance to see how much it will cost you to run a business.

I would charge quite a lot, maybe the equivalent of part livery as if you Are doing field maintenance etc too it's more than 3 days full livery. No idea what that all costs nowadays.

That's interesting, I paid 180 for DIY on a nice yard with a school in Surrey 15 years ago. Around here in Devon it's more like 150 give or take

I should have said, my estimates are based on prices in the south east (I’m in south Oxfordshire) - I’m not in touch with regional differences.
 
I pay £250 per month for DIY livery in Berkshire. 2 outdoor arenas plus a small indoor, but it's also a riding school so access can be limited. We don't have to do any field maintenance or poo pick as they harrow when the horses change fields.

The lady has said she Just include hay . And she uses wood pellets and a different type of topping other than shavings. So she would require skip out daily and just do a deep clean once a week. Which she has said she wants . So you would say £15 extra on top for (turn in or out ,feed and give hay )?


So it's basically morning turn in and out for 3 days ,stable grazing and water,skip out ,hay given (separate hay price )
 
I'm in Manchester. DIY at a reasonable yard about £30 a week. Full livery jobs fee £15 a day. Our communal haylage is £12 a week but I think that is cheap.
 
do you have your own horse in the 4th stable, or live on site? if you’re there anyway i’d charge slightly less for the full livery days, but that’s just me personally.

i pay £38 a week for fully DIY (i feed in the morning aswell) with a school & haylage included, i’m about 10 miles away from longridge.

if you’re already there i’d say around the £10-£15 mark for the full livery days, hay price would depend what kind of horses they are and how much she’s going to have them out vs in. if they’re big poor keepers & going to spend half the time stabled in poor weather i’d obviously charge more than for good doers that are out as much as possible!

i pay £50 for a round hay bale that i buy from the YO, which was lasting 1 welsh D over a month when she was on soaked hay both ends of the day - now that she’s back out during the day & only having a night net of it, it’s lasting forever.
 
If you intend to do this then make sure in these litigation happy times that you have the right insurances and also declare the income correctly - possibly thru a business.

If you are thinking of going 'under the radar' with this as a side income whilst working at something else be aware that the taxman is from this year going to start investigating and making people declare side-income over a certain figure (£1k - can't remember). They are aiming to identify such things as puppy breeding, e-bay selling and suchlike.

Recent legislation has given the taxman the right to examine your bank accounts without your knowledge in order to detect (and hence tax) income that isn't being declared already thru a business or PAYE.
 
I'd work out a weekly DIY rate and add £20 per horse per day on top of that for full livery. I'd supply hay but charge in arrears based on how much they actually eat - at cost per bale plus small 'admin fee' for ordering it in, being there for delivery etc.
 
Work out the costs of public liability, the added cost of electricity and water, field and yard maintenance etc. Add in your time at (at least) minimum wage. It may work out more expensive than you think

This! They pay DIY rate, provide hay, bedding and feed and you do the livery on a set rate per day. Have you got a school? That affects the base price you can ask.
