Probably a daft question about a grazing muzzle....

My kids' section A is currently a lot on the chunky side and I've been bringing him in during the day to get him off the grass. However (and I know this would be obvious) he seems to gorge when he goes back out at night and so any weight he's lost during the day he just puts back on at night. So I've dug out his grazing muzzle, carefully lined the strap with sheepskin as it was rubbing last time we used it, and decided to put it back on.

My problem is that he has a cough at the moment (from the dust in the stable- another reason I want him out and muzzled up). Can he wear a muzzle if he has a cough? I mean will he be able to open his mouth wide enough to cough (I don't want him getting an asthma attack or the horsey equivalent if there is one!).

Also, any advice on a good cough treatment would be greatly appreciated- preferably one that doesn't have to be added to food as he's getting enough of that already!

i think they can open their mouths enough to cough! they dont open them very wide do they?-unless they have something stuck!!

....no cough remedies from me though I'm afraid....just less dust in the stable I guess! - rubber mats and soaked hay??

yes he will be able to cough, mine had a dust allergy for a while, he managed it ok - i dont like having the "bucket" part too tight around the mouth - leave enough room for them to be able to move their muzzles around inside. It makes them work a bit harder for the grass then aswell.
