....and more to do with Facebook, social networking than here so no one get offended ;)

When charities appeal for homes for dogs/cats, and people reply in their droves:
'I would take him/her BUT...I have another dog...I have no room....X,Y,Z'

Does that irritate anyone else, when there are 40 comments and not ONE offers practical help, just a statement to prove that they are nice people and to make *themselves* feel better and shoulda, woulda, coulda....

I'd be interested to find out whether anyone at the coal face of rescue or rehoming finds this annoying? Or do I need to stop being such a grump :o
 
On the upside though, their comments will be visible on their profiles, hopefully drawing more people to the rescue page. So while it would be nice for people to say 'Yes! I can take [this animal] on!', just commenting is also useful at times, albeit in a less direct way.:)
 
CC I hear you but if there were no replies that would be even worse, someone might be tempted in by the thought that the dog is desirable by other people who sadly cant rehome and they are in a position to do so.
 
I hear this every day of the week and it gets effing annoying on occasion. Thr one thing worse is when someone offers a dog a home then pulls out because they have another dog/cat/kid/job/bloody jack in the box. I mean didnt you KNOW you had all these things when you agreed to take the dog?!
 
One of the rescue groups I kennel for has a policy of no rehoming in the second half of December unless to someone who has been on the list for a while and fulfils all the criteria and is home and with no young children at Christmas. Otherwise dogs kept into the new year.

Got a dog in that ticked all the boxes, arranged a meet up for the weekend with someone who came on the list in Late September and then got a message the evening before that they now wanted to wait until Spring as they didn't want to take on a dog in the Winter.
 
That irritates me too as i see no need to give excuses when its not required. It does seem like a common reaction even on forum threads just raising awareness of a particular dog where a cute dog or good luck type reply would suffice if not personally interested in adopting it.

S4sugar- that's terrible some people are so selfish. My friends rescue held a dog while the couple went on holiday and then didn't show to collect it, they eventually made contact with them only to told they'd changed their minds. No idea why they couldn't just phone the rescue to tell them that in the first place.

Did you rehome your boy? I had a call the other day for a shaggy lurcher boy, the lady had just lost her deerhound, sadly my shaggy is reserved.

I see your point CC:) but then I am the worlds biggest grouch:o:p

Recently I am hating the people wasting my time and diesel having a home check then calling later to say "I changed my mind", and I ain't talking no 10 mile up the road either:mad::mad: and just time wasters in general, we rescues get enough folk moaning about us but seriously if you knew what we had to deal with you would realise:rolleyes:

Hi Cayla

I have a lady coming from the Isle of Wight on wednesday,weather allowing. If she is not suitable or is not interested in Macaulay, perhaps the person who called you might be. Did she want a lurcher or another DH ?? I have spoken to a lot of DH people at the weekend at the champ show I went to, Macaulays behaviour is typical DH ! :) nice to know he is not as special as I thought :)
 
this annoys me too!!
on timewasters - I had somebody buy a kitten, picked her up at 6pm, txt me at MIDNIGHT saying they dont think she is right for them. spoke to her the next day telling them to give her a day or two to settle in assuring her that she is a very sweet and friendly kitten,woman adament she is bringing her back because - she doesnt have the time for a kitten!! :mad::mad::mad::mad:
I was soooo angry!!! I met her at the bottom of my drive, picked the kitten up there carried her to the car and drove off barely saying a word.
like a kitten needs to be messed around like that!!!
(kitten went to a really nice lady the day after and is spoilt to within an inch of her life:rolleyes:)
