today i was escorting a hack at work.
everything was fine all the riders were capable riders we were in an open field decided to have a trot about 4 - 5 strides in to the trot i heard a scream turned around to see one of the riders had fallen her horse had slip and trip and she had been tipped out the front i jumped off and rushed over to her she said she had bust her wrist when i looked her gloves were torn and there was blood gushing out through gloves and down arm lucky bleeding stopped pretty quickly you are probably wondering why i wanted everyone to read this ??
well her watch had caused this sever cut so please please think before you wear any jewelry or watches.
The rider was rushed to hospital when the ambulance found us probably the scarest hour of my life i for one will never wear a watch when riding again

We were all taught this at Riding School in the late '60's ...

everyone was to remove ALL jewelery before riding out.

All of us Ride Leaders didn't wear any jewellery at all as a result of what we were taught.

when i now ride out, the only "extra" i have is a mobile phone tucked inside my boot....i even remove my wedding ring.

ETS....the bottom 2 pics are the same!!

Well done for dealing with it so well must have been scary to see (I'm normally the person on the ground screaming!lol). I don't wear a watch anyway but it never would have occured to me to now wear one when riding.

That's horrid, I suppose event watches are made of safety glass or was the wound caused by another part of the watch

The glove off pic is not there and I may be gruesome but would like to see the injury as it seems so extreme

One of my relations in Australia is missing his wedding finger because he was thrown off rounding up bulls in to a wire fence and caught his wedding ring on the fence taking his finger right off... I never wear any jewellery riding!!

Eeew, that's terrible. I take my rings off but always wear a watch to ride.

On a similar note, please don't ever wear glasses when you are riding. I don't have a digital camera so can't show you what they did to my eye but there was one point where the hospital said I might lose some of the sight in one eye....

I never wear any, not even my wedding ring. Just not worth the risk. Im always shocked when I see females wearing Tiffany's when riding. I think they look naff but thats because I was taught like JM way back in the good old 'dark ages'.

EWWWW Gross!! I do wear a watch - but it's an oakley surfer job that has no sharp bits - it's made of a really soft material and is designed for sports use......I wouldn't wear a jewelery type watch for love nor money, nor would i ride wearing earings!!

I have those very thin disposable wear once contact lens for riding in. I suppose it would be a bit expensive if you rode out every day, but then my glasses are £200 a time as I'm so blind and you don't really want to break them, to say nothing of damage to your eyes. I can see fine close up, but not distance, so the lens suit me for that.

I came off and went into a fence post - had the dent in my wrist from my watch for a few years.

I don't wear a ring, but I do wear my watch (metal strap and case). When I ride the Dizz I leave my bracelet off (chunky silver thing).

Well done on staying calm and getting it all sorted.

Scary pics, I take off all my rings, necklace and earings but it never entered my head to take off my watch, how silly, just don't think of it as jewellery I suppose. Will be doing so from now on though, not good with blood, especially my own!!

Poor woman. What a horrid thing to have happen. Well done for managing such a nasty incident so well.

Poor girl, that looks awful. I hope her treatment goes well.
Am I the only one who hasn't even thought of this.
I always wear my watch, leather strap rather than a metal bracelet type. I wear my wedding and eternity rings and a wee cross round my neck that I never really take off.
I sometimes carry my phoine in jod pocket but more often it is in the wee holder that goes on my arm.
Sounds like I am an example of what not to do

ets, if i took my rings off to ride and forgot to put them on again, hubby would think I am up to no good.

Poor lass, I can appreciate why our pony club DC always yelled at us to remove jewellery now!

Out of my own gorish fascination - what was the outcome to her hand, do you know? It doesn't look too deep in the photos but from plastic referral I'm assuming tendons?
