(Probably silly) query about my new horse

I've only had him since Monday, and even though he's not my first horse, i've been worrying about lots of things :o
He seems to be scared of his waterbucket..seriously. :o It's the one in his field, and it's bright blue, not sure if that's anything to do with it?! He has a bright purple one in his stable (and bright red feed bucket!) which he's fine with and will drink from it happily, but I'm worried about him not drinking during the day (he's out from 8am ish til 5ish). He'll literally get within a couple of feet, then spook at it, blowing and standing with his head bobbing up and down! He had a trough in his old field I seem to remember. He has otherwise been pretty relaxed (surprisingly so!), both in the field and in the stable.

Thoughts?!
 
Bless him! Has it ever been empty when you've got back in the evening? Only say that as a horse at our yard finds empty moving buckets in field very, very scarey lol
 
They sometimes are very funny animals!! There's a horse on our yard, been here a while, settled in, a middle aged horse, and one that is pretty laid back, but he has a new red water bucket in his stable that he won't drink out of!!!!!! Will drink out of any other colour just not red!!

Just use a different colour bucket in the field for water!!
 
I doubt its the colour but have you tried swapping it with the one from his stable that he will drink from? Would help you eliminate what it is he's objecting to.
 
try a colour bucket you already have and hes not scared of. My mare has to have two big water buckets in her stable and one is bright pink and one black. She only drinks out of the pink one unless all of that is bone dry then will she only 'sip' out of the black one haha! strange cretures :)
