Problem colt and rigcalm /Angus castus

And as explained he deserves a chance to settle in his new home that's very different to his previous home! If there's no improvement he will be gelded... as iv'e said numerous times previously to you
!

Can I suggest sensible and competent handling and training as an alternative to gelding?

This is the thing he is manageable , you can pretty much do what you want with him in the stable he leads out fine , he goes for walks behind geldings to get used to traffic , weelie bins, all the normal everyday things you'd see if you were out hacking. He lunges, long reins i do it all alone with him, he will lead past a mare he doesn't stop and try and drag you or anything like that.. He lives in between 2 geldings which he can touch through the bars that separates the stables he's happy enough to be with them, the problem is in his stable if mares are moving about the yard. Which is why my original post was asking about the suppliment's to see if any one had any experience of them weather they worked to take the edge off things for him.

You've had him since August. I'd be very concerned if he hasn't settled by now.

Why would you be concerned??? Hes come from being a colt completely alone to our busy yard full of mares, geldings, and another stallion. My other horse took 9 months to settle in he was a nervous wreck when i got him !! All horses are different!!! Depends on the kind of life and upbringing they've previously had. Some dont give a monkeys some take moves bad.

Yes horses take time to settle and you can't put a time limit on these things. However after 3 months I would certainly expect the horse to be relaxed enough in their new home to be calm and be accepting of their new environment.

And I would be looking at my management processes that were preventing thos from happening after this amount of time.

DO NOT JUDGE ME AND HOW I DEAL WITH MY HORSES!!! WE ARE A BUSY YARD HE IS AN ENTIRE COLT WE HAVE MARES ALL OVER THE PLACE AND IS OBVIOUSLY TAKING SOME GETTING USED TO FOR HIM!!! IN YOUR OWN WORDS YOU CANT PUT A TIME LIMIT ON THESE THINGS!!!! NOW I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME OR PATIENCE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH YOU ANY MORE AS NOTHING YOUR SAYING IS CONSTRUCTIVE JUST LOOKING FOR AN ARGUMENT!!!

Well must admit Amymay says straight to the point and she is right. He from what I could see from your photo is a smart looking animal, he's now 2 and grown the crest, if you don't want to use him as a stallion, then geld, if you don't want our opinions why post on here.

Op, you don't need to shout. You started a post - and often they lead to discussions (isn't that their purpose?).

Anyway, you might not like what I've said - but it's certainly all food for thought eh?

you did!! Right here !!

Nobody has suggested any time scale, some take longer than others, just that if you don't want to use him as a stallion, why keep him whole, as you must know that he will start to get interested in mares or get totally frustrated.

This is stating he should be settled in! As stated i have no interest myself in breeding ! However he could be used by others in the future once ive done with him what i want to do with him !

yes we have an entire strawberry roan traditional cob stallion, my stepdad breeds foals by him every year ( hence why i have no desire at all to breed myself) so we always have young stock about , including mares ,colts are usually gelded at 3 and broke to ride after ... however none have ever been like this lad...He is very forward as you can see he doesnt look like the average 2 yr old and doesnt look it either.

if you read this he is manageable !

I took the theory that my fabulous young pony could be cloned if he turned out to be worth breeding from. As I never want to breed from him myself, this logic meant that gelding him was not a problem :)

He may be worth cloning, he may not, if not they'll come off , but once they come off they cant be stuck back on :)

He's a gorgeous chap op. I have two welsh d stallions and the best company for mine when they got big for there boots was an in foal top ranking brood mare. She took no nonsense.
Remember he's already been over fed and wizzed up for showing and it can get to the more sensitive ones.
He's had a big change and has hormones on top to deal with but it up to you to set his ground rules with behaviour around mares. I exposed mine to every Tom dick and Harriet as they have to be able to work and behave around mares.
Are you worried he's getting worse or just looking for advice on how to get him settled?

Indeed not, hence why mine will simply be cloned if need be. I suspect his breed will survive without him however! After all his sire is still at stud, as are many other lovely stallions :) Rather not concern myself with adding to the herd.

You could always freeze semen now and then geld him, have best of both worlds that way?

This is correct, we have in foal mares here which will put him right in his place ... but at what cost?? When he came he didnt even realise the difference from geldings/mares it was very sad to see to be honest . Its not about what hes worth , hes an amazing animal and i looked for a horse like him of this specific type for best part of a year, i just want to help him settle and be a normal 2 yr old .

Thank you. We have brood mares here in foal but im petrified he'll get hurt then his showing career will be over. Your right he is very sensitive and very suspicious of everything and you do have to gain his trust. Its like he rebelled when he came he was boss and it got nipped in the bud immediately . He's not getting any worse just not settling down any and i was asking peoples advice on any ways/supplements to settle him.
