Over the months I have been on here there have been quite a few people who have purchased horses and had major problems, some tried to send horses back ,other must have sorted things out. Some sent them away for schooling
Any updates good or bad?

Horses are generally very co-operative animals and will do anything to please.

Most horses don't like a move and they express this in a change of character. With some horses they express this quite dramaticly.

In my experience it can take take up to 2 years for a horse to settle down in to it's environment and new routine.

Sadly people treat horses like fashion accessories - the problem being that they have not grown up with horses and had no mentor that can talk them through the issues of new horse ownership.

There is not a quick fix with horses - just routine and put in lots of hours bonding with a new horse.

People are too quick too discard a horse because it has behavioural problems.

I had issues with Frankie, who used to buck and I was scared to ride him. I have since purchased two Sue Carson saddles (one dressage, one jumping), and have purchased an electromagnetic pulse massage rug (although its hard to tell if this has made a difference), and all is well

. He hasn't bucked for ages, I can hack him fine (he gets a little excited on the way back but there we go), I've started jumping him, and I'm pleased I persisted. We still have bad days, but I think everyone does!!!

I didn't purchase, but rescued a horse with problems. The pictures aren't very nice, so I won't put them on the open forum but if anyone's interested then they can PM me.

After a few months he chilled out a bit and was able to put some weight on, he hadn't had his teeth done for three years or his feet done for some time. We took him right back to basics and after a year had a very happy, relaxed horse who could hack out. That was all he was ever going to be though. He lived a very happy life until he passed away in March.

I am not sure if mine is a problem horse but i am one of the people who bought from a problem dealer - my horse was supposed to be a confidence giving school master butwas a nervous reck hacking out - she is still a nervous reck hacking out but is more manageable in the sense that we are making progress - we even managed a gallop yesterday which she loved! We are entering our first show (begginers sj!) in two weeks so its going to be slow going with her but i am positive with lots of support and tuition we shall get there. And I am enjoying her! Nice idea for a post as its great to hear of peoples success stories! x

Me and my OH bought 'Spike' earlier this year knowing her had really big issues with being mounted. We sent him away to a guy called Jason Webb he stayed for 4 weeks. On the day we picked him up Jason had a 'trick' to show us....... jumping on spike bareback!!!!
We were so chuffed. Since we got him home (2 months now) my OH has been riding him. He had a lesson or 2 and competed at a dressage comp at our yard. His first ever and got 61%. He has had good days and bad days. Some days he gets on him in a matter of seconds but one day it took nearly and hour!! Luckily the bad days are getting far less. I even got on him yesterday for the first time!! He is a fb little horse with some issues that he is slowly getting over.

These stories are lovely.I am so glad some have persisted and succeeded.I remember some were so difficult and I felt for both the new owners and the poor horses.I feel horses love to stay in their herd and it must be terrible to keep being sold on.
