Charlie seems to have a dislike of our maroon and navy poles and will run out the 1st time I try to get him over them, wherever they are put up. This morning he ran out the 1st time at them, kangarooed over the 2nd and demolished them the 3rd. None of the other poles (including rustics) seem to bother him.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I very nearly chose these colours as my XC colours. Good thing I did not!

my mare used to hate jumping anything of any colour at all (would only jump rustics but had a cracking jump)

but my mare has currently had a personality transplant and has decieded they are now jumpable just not with fillers underneath

try getting her confident jumping them on the lunge and then do some grid work with the marroon and navy poles it should help!

Good idea. I could stick the scary poles in the middle of the grid.

Never jumped him on the lunge before. In fact, never lunged him full stop!

My horse used to hate yellow coloured poles and refused to go near them! He'd side step, jault forward then stop dead, was pretty bad.

Just pushed him through it and after a couple of sessions has seemed to have forgot his fear. Have recently been doing lots of grid work and he has become more confident in jumping, have also just been taking him out to comps to show him the 'scary' jumps they have there to help his confidence. Personally i think he just looked for excuses not to jump. When we first got him he had never jumped (apart from twice in racing) and he was edgy towards other poles, but it always was worse with yellow

Oh and with the xc colours... i chose yellow and navy as mine, it's actually since i got them he hasn't bothered with yellow! lol... maybe it would be worth a try!! lol

So are you drjames daughter?

I don't think horses really care too much about the colour of poles, just ride him positively.

Mine are yellow and navy.

I had a horse who hated anything that was yellow and black - poles/fillers/planks.

No problem with black and white, or yellow and white, just yellow and black.

Horses definately do see colours as how else would you explain that?
