problem on a livery yard.. how do you,...

Livery yard owners/managers are a total joke most of the time. However there are the odd few that are amazing - luckily I am currently on a yard with such an owner, however sadly they are like gold dust.

The number of problems we had at our last yard, everything from awful management through to downright cruelty to the horses. What p*sses me off more than anything else though is that they don't do what you say, or decide that THEY know how to look after youru horse better and deliberately go against what you have told them to do. And the fact that some YO's think it is acceptable to discipline a horse to a severe extreme without the owners permission both horrifies and disgusts me.

At the end of the day you pay for livery and you expect a service in return - some owners seem to forget they are running a business, and thus the aim is to keep the customer happy.

Anyway rant over haha - I think the fact that 8 horses (7 owners) have left the yard in 6 weeks speaks volumes!! I just feel sorry for any innocent person who is lured in by there lies as is the case with so many owners who promise the world.

Personally I think the should be even more discussion among horse owners about the places to avoid.

I get really upset if I have to confront the YO at our yard. I get upset through frustration and also because I find it hard to express how I feel and get all tongue tied and stuck and get frustrated with myself. Also I am not good trying to have a conversation with a persons back. I'm not a trouble maker, far from it, but I do expect a good service for the hard earned money that I pay. Nine times out of ten I get a good service, but when things don't go to plan it is very hard not to blow things out of all proportion. I would rather write down I feel in a letter to the YO rather than speak directly as I can put across better what my expectations are in a fair and civil manner.

You are absolutly right to have let rip!! Having finally found a great place I am so suprised at what people will still put up with!!! I would move my horse from a yard like that, it might be hard to bite the bullet and do it but I would not hesitate! My YO would not dream of doing anything like that!
