Sorry, this should probably be in Vet but more people come here

Ellie's front hoofs have been 'peeling' for a week or two, and the hinds seem to following suit. Here's a pic:

Underneath her feet her soles have also been white and crumbly. You can scrape off the white crumbly surface, leaving hard sole underneath. She is in no pain and is sound. The crumbling has occured since I have used 9% peroxide on her feet for thrush, could this be the problem?

Her heels on her fronts are also cracked and peeling:

The farrier is coming out on Wednesday, but in the meantime, have you any ideas as to what is wrong?

I know the peeling/flakiness of the sole is natural, but I have not seen that at the top of the hoof wall before!

I don't think it's anything to worry about, I expect it was just the peroxide drying her feet out a little bit- it does the same to human skin! May be worth putting a slick of hoof oil just around the coronet IMO

The first picture is of the periople and indicates that the horses feet are very dry. Get some sort of mousturiser (normal hoof oil isnt the best but if thats what you have got then stick some on

i normally recommend Hoof Heal.

The sole is exfoliating and should be pared off.

The last picture, that is bad thrush! bad. Although you are using HP are you sure you are getting it in the right place and deep down in the cleft of the frog? You should at least be using purple spray as well (also deep down into the frog as you can get it) Its basically eating away your horses frogs

i would say it was the bleach that has dryed your horses hoofs out get them trimmed and get some hoof moist on them that will sort it!

Thanks for everyones help. It has put my mind at rest

Ref: Thrush, I probably haven't been able to get the HP where it was most needed. She is a swine for leaning on me and relaxing her legs when I pick them up so I am trying to prop her up and hold up a heavy leg while squirting the HP on!

I will enlist the help of someone to either pick up feet while I squirt or vice versa

I would not use HP at all, it necrotises tissue. Talk to the vet or farrier about getting a good hoof disinectant and maybe syringing it down the cracks.
