Hi its been a while since I last posted anything on here>

So basically I brought a brand new ideal jessica saddle 18 inch off ebay from martin wilkinson saddlers ( they were selling saddles off making room for new stock.)

The problem I have with the saddle it feels small like im locked in a bit, I have really long thighs but I like riding short ish I normally ride in a 18 in albion k2 jump saddle iv'e also had a wow dressage saddle standard block 18 inch seat I found that ok once I got used to it ( but didnt like the air bags so swapped it)

when I ride with longer stirrups i feel like i'm reaching all the time when they are a hole shorter they are better but then I feel locked in .

do you think if I ride in the saddle a bit it will break it in and be ok?

Before I purchased the saddle I tried my friends ideal jessica and that felt ok that was only 17.5 and only just didn't fit me so I thought the 18 would be ok.( here saddle had a sued seat mine is leather)

Iv'e tried putting the saddle back on ebay but iv'e had no interest I only paid £600 for it so I would want that back for it ideally.

but I'm wondering if I just rode in it a bit more it would break in ?? What is everyone's opinion

mmm, now that is interesting, i had a 18" but think it measured a little bigger, i am only short, but am long from hip to knee (and have a large bum) and have never had a locked in feeling with the jessica, they are quite deep seated, do you think thats whats making you feel locked in? is there room in front of your knee or is it over the front of the saddle? and is there room behind your bum?
I have always had the suede seated jessicas and not the leather though.

just a thought... if your stirrups feel either too long or short on only one hole difference try leathers with holes close together for finer adjustment. you might just need an inbetween hole. good luck

I had a lesson in it today and my instructor said I just didn't look right in it I don't know if to get hacking out in or just sell it now while I can still sell it as new . I am gutted it is a really nice saddle ! I spoke to ideal they said there saddles come up a bit shorter in the seat than some saddles I wish i had known this previous to purchasing it !! I really struggle getting saddles to fit me.

if I had the holes where I wanted them they would be over the knee roll, if I have them longer there ok but I feel like im reaching for them all the time there is about 1/2 to 3/4 hand width behind my but :)

I've just ordered a new ideal saddle, I nornally ride in a 17" wintec but have had to have a 17.5" in ideal. Bottom hasn't grown too much recently either 😜

This is what i'm thinking do you mind me asking how much you have paid for the saddle new ? I was thinking of maybe putting it on saddles direct but not sure what its worth either more or less than what i've paid for it. x

Awful saddle - quite simply the worst saddle I've had the misfortune to sit on... I'm sure some people love them but to me I'd rather ride bareback - can't get on with it...

Is this one of the saddles that states the following?

The saddle is branded with Martin Wilkinson head nails and plates, but this can be changed to Ideal plates easily if prefered.

The saddle is an upgrade of the Jessica dressage sadd;e. Similar feel for the rider but more advance on the black/bar positsion.

if you knee if over the front i wonder if the seat is too small for you.
I love mine, but have had saddles i just cant get along with, i would sell it, if that was me it would just annoy me all the time.

No ive tried to include a link from my purchase history can you see it ?

it states that it can be changed from Wilkinson to Ideal - for me I am suspicious and would welcome the rationale behind this? Its either a wilkinson or an ideal surely? The link description from the original listing states "The saddle is branded with Martin Wilkinson head nails and plates, but this can be changed to Ideal plates easily if preferred."

Which suggests to me it isn't really a "jessica" saddle, couple of reasons, as an ideal it should be branded and a change of plate suggests otherwise??? I understand that people can make on licence and Martin Wilkinson are a reputable saddler but I would also expect a 17.5" to be very similar in fit to an 18" - happy to be corrected?

Then the advert states this "This saddle is only at this price for online bidding/sale only. This saddle will be sold at full price if fitted with Martin Wilkinson Saddlers. Please do not ask to visit the shop to see the saddle or purchase as this price as only for sale at this low price for quick sale via internet sale."
I would be questioning why? The seller in no way links to their website????

This doesn't seem right to me?

They sent the ideal badges with the saddle it does have jessica written on the saddle, a lot of saddlers put there own nail heads on ideal said it would be one of there saddles so im pretty sure it is what they say it is . I hate buying saddles!!
