Has anyone had any?
We had two 10 month old colts gelded some 10 days ago.
I have been unable to check them, due to having just come out of hospital, so last time I personally looked was Tuesday morning. It's now Friday evening.
Daughter been doing them, and reckoned all was ok, however tonight, noticed tonight one of them has huge swelling, which has burst and vet had to come out.
She said the vet cut the wound open again, and said it had healed too quickly. More days of hosing, antibiotic and pain killers required, poor lad.
And me, unable to help.
The other foal is, touch wood, fine.
Anyone else experienced this? First time I have ever had any problems with gelding, so anyone else who has experienced the same thing, words of advise appreciated.

Yes i've had it happen a few times usually around 10 - 14 days after, they look very swollen and are slow walking. The wounds heal too quick so vet comes back and opens the holes back up just by pushing a finger through them. None of mine usually get antibiotics, pain killer or cold hosing just plenty of exercise and all have healed fine without problems.

Thanks Silverfire.
Hopefully then the 5 days more of antibiotic is just a precaution. Not had anything to geld for years, but when I previously worked on a stud, never saw any problems afterwards. Aware things could go wrong, just didn't expect it actually to do so.
