Problems at Catching in Time

We keep our horses at home with two friend's horses too. My horse, who is the herd leader, is fine when anybody else catches him in but when I go to get them in he charges and chases the other horses away. Yesterday he caused a minor injury to my daughter's horse and I'm worried he is going to cause a more serious injury. Why is he doing this with me and is there anyway I can stop him. Thank you!
 
Everytime!! but only with me. Stands by the gate quietly for everybody else. Have a good routine and catch them in at the same time.
 
Could he be jealous of any attention you give to the other's? My horse & a friends would be out quietly together anywhere but if they saw either of us that persons horse would become a complete pain in the a** & chase the other one.
Could you try letting someone else get all the others in then getting your one yourself so he has all your attention & no one to chase off or does he have to come in first?
What happens if someone wants to take one of the others out not at "coming in time" - is he the same say if you went to get your daughter's horse?
 
He always comes in first. Usually he's fine if we're not catching them in together. Just wondered if anybody had any tips for getting his attention so I can get the headcollar on before all hell breaks loose. They are all really happy in their little herd. Everybody knows their place it's just me catching in that causes the problem.
 
I would be tempted to get him a good 30 mins to an hour before everything else.

He's asserting his dominance over the other horses - and eventually someone or something will get badly hurt.
 
Could do that but would still have the initial problem of getting him in. The other horses stand well back but he still chases them. Might have to think about separating them which would be a real shame.

Well theoretically everything else should still have their heads down and eating if you bring him in earlier - so shouldn't be a problem.
 
You could try making an electric fence tape pen behind the gate. Then you could get through the gate and through the pen in different places and it might help avoid his anticipation of you always being in the same spot and guarding that spot. If he is having to think about where you are then he might forget about chasing the others off. Would also save poaching your gateway!
 
Yup, sounds like he has decided that you are 'his' and no one else is going to get a look in. Be flattered but be careful. Good advice above about letting him know that he does come first with you and distracting him.
