My 22 year old TB has decided it is fun to completely go wild when cantering. She had a quiet winter before we moved yards and now we have resumed work, prior to moving she just hacked with the occasional canter here and there...

However my horse will go nicely on one rein and then begin to tank off, to the point where she just gets faster and faster flinging herself around the school like a lunatic. It is getting the point where she is being dangerous. I have started lunging before I ride to get rid of the excess energy, my instructor said to ride her through it and keep her cantering until she stops it, but this does not seem to be working she is just not listening at all. I am trying to seat deep in my seat but it is very hard when she is being a lunatic.

She does have arthritis in her hocks so I wonder if this could be a contributing factor? Has anyone else had this problem? She never used to do this, any help would be great. I will also be ringing the vets tomorrow to ask for some advice in case it is pain. Thank you

Possibly feeling it sore working on a circle in the school, if everything else seems ok id try a couple of days on danilon and see if it makes a difference, if it does she might need it for maintainance or if it doesnt speak to youre vet there may be an underlying issue

Thank you Marydoll I suspect this but I cannot be 100% certain, she has never been this bad so I am going to ring the vets tomorrow to see what they suggest. Thank you though :)
