Bought some D&H Buildup cubes yesterday and none of my 5 geldings- all cob types - will touch it

The (undamaged) sack has a BB date of Feb 2010 so well within date. The nuts are a little dusty but smell ok. I have returned the sack to my feed merchant and they are sending it back but i wondered if anyone else has had horses refusing to eat this feed. I do regularly feed this in the winter so its not them being fussy about a change TBH they are dustbins when it comes to food.

My sister's horse wouldn't eat his when I was visiting at the weekend & he normally does. Shetland mare hoovered them up though!

Never iused the cubes, but have changed back to the mix, instead of 16 plus, and the smell is hugley different much more minty, I wonder if the cubes have the same strong smell?

my horse wouldn't touch them, i thought maybe they had some kind of fish oil in them as they smell fishy to me!

The mix smells much nicer tho!

My old boy has been on them for ages and he hasn't turned his nose up over any of the recent bags. However, I am due a new bag on Friday so will see if there is any difference. I did have a couple of their bottles of cod liver oil that although smelled ok to me, turned all 7 of mine off their breakfasts so I knew it wasn't right. The feed merchant said that very occasionally they get a dodgy batch (not just from D&H) and they exchanged it without any probs. I would definitely take it to your retailer and ask for a replacement. I'll let you know if my latest cubes cause a problem. Incidentally I have noticed that some of the D&H products now come in different packaging, and that one of their chaffs is very different to the last batch, both in texture and in smell. Perhaps they have changed their recipes?
