Products you find useful around the yard/fields?

Hi,
I was wondering if you could give me an idea of the equine products that you find useful around the yard.

I'm researching original but useful products that people use around the yard, particularly field management and stable/yard management. Not things like tack, rugs or rider accessories though.

So what products do you use and really rate?

Any brands of products you dislike too? For which reasons?

Not specifically solely equine, more general purpose.

Arctic Cat :D Best $6,000 I have ever spent - I love my quad it is invaluable.

I also would be lost without my harrow, roller and bush hog, but they are all quite high $ items, which not everybody needs or has, I assume you are talking about everyday stuff. I don't buy a specific brand, so sorry, I can't help you there, if it works that is good enough for me.

In which case:-

#1 on my list would be latex gloves, I buy them by the carton (100) from my local Farm Store, no specific brand.

#2 Cable ties - almost as versatile as baler cord, better in many cases.

#3 Fencing tool

I love all my Harold Moore products such as there lightweight green shovel, brush and unifork. I like to stand out in a crowd and they are brilliant quality. Love the round bowl scoop aswell as all my horses come straight up the field to be caught.
 
Wickes heavy duty rubber gloves
Jeyes fluid
Builder barrow (outlasts any other make/type!)
Orange & black plastic shovel - doubles for snow shifting, tank smashing & also poo-picking on occasions.
This last item has been in very hard work for over 15 years http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/ProductDetails.ice?ProductID=7734 and would not be without it!
Still scrubs up to almost perfect condition too!
 
My lightweight four pronged mucking out fork, I had it from new back in the 70's and its still going strong, ok a little worn now but just as useful !
 
The things I couldn't live with out:

- idestructible wheel barrow tyre, expensive but no more punctures

- quad bike - allows me to do all my own field managment

- electric fencing - saves thousands on 'fixed' fencing and versatile

Think that is it
 
Big orange builders wheelbarrow from B+Q- had it about 7 years now.

Large trug for skipping out.

Ragfork.....take it around the paddock when I'm poo-picking.

Really firm yard brush for sweeping rubber mats.

Old carrot bags for cleaning troughs/buckets ( ok- not stricly a product but hey)
 
Never used one but they look useful for larger yards, the bags that sit in the wheelie and you fill it full of water then wheel it to the buckets. Looks like it would make the water filling saga on a larger yard more manageable
 
Quads. I have two!:eek: Bought the second one when the first broke down and appeared to have died. Now have a trailer on that one with fencing tools, posts, sometimes a portable generator, and small tools in a fish box on the rear rack. The second pulls the Predator poo picker. Both used daily. Couldn't live with out them.
 
I have an array of stiff bristled brushes around the yard, they scrub and clean anything and everything! I have them all hung up by baling twine so there's always one within reach!

I also couldn't like without my wheelbarrow, water tubs, ragfork, poo picker and electric fencing stakes + tape!

Like neelie, my long lightweight 4pronged fork (mines only 20 yrs old though)
Builders barrow
Tough thick metal shovel, for normal stuff plus smashing ice, de weeding yard etc.
Plastic feed bins from wilkos, double up as small jump wings & storage & for soaking dirty rugs & hay.
Tesco value cleaner for buckets, stable floors, cleaning grooming kit.
Lockable metal storage bins/ locker.
Got one of the blue wheelbarrow water carriers for when outside water frozen & we use farmers indoor one & carry it round, but like the 5l ones I have too, enough to top up buckets but easy to pour too.
Keyring size de icer, great for padlocks on frozen mornings & you can't forget it.

for this something I used to use and couldbn't live without until I got a water feeder was a large trug inside one of the wheelie trugs from B&Q, wheel to tap, fil, wheel back :)
 
My marigold gloves - I use them for mucking out by hand instead of using a pooper scoop. Saves wasting bedding and makes poo picking the field much quicker

Large trug for putting all the poo in

Water spray filled with water and a few dollops of tea tree oil ... brilliant for keeping feet thrush free and a quick squirt over the bedding post muck out

Large towel for drying wet pony with

Picnic blanket with waterproof side. Brilliant for bombproof purposes (wrap it over them, under them, rustle it at them, make them walk over it - the list is endless!) and jolly useful for those picnics up the field!
 
Here's my list:

- Baby wipes. Not a "horsey/equine" product as such, but v.useful for taking to shows to polish boots, deal with grass stains etc

- Horseman's One Step cleaning stuff: not the cheapest but deffo the best IME

- a reel of leccy fencing tape and a few of the taller stakes never come amiss for fencing emergencies, plus a spare battery! (essential when its tiddling down with rain at 10pm and horsie has decided to metamorphosise into Houdini! - these things always happen when the shop's shut)

- Stable stain remover (sorry can't remember the name of it) - also fab for cleaning synthetic tack/girths etc.

- Jeyes Fluid: makes stable pong nice after using

- rubber gardening gloves: ideal for picking up mucky feet & picking out hooves

- Fairy Liquid: for washing out feed bowls etc

- Dustpan & brush for dealing with hoof parings before the dogs get to it (and the resultant sick afterwards)

- a long lunge rein: never know when you're gonna get a loading problem.

Sorry can't think of any more!
