Is there a difference in temperament, ridability, trainability etc of a very well bred warmblood with top bloodlines and a standard more modest warmblood in their suitability for amateurs? I know a lot of professional warmbloods certainly have their opinions and can get offended very easily if ridden incorrectly. I know, I used to own one who I had to sell to a professional because I was over horsed and I also work on a dressage yard. Although I'd love to buy another one day if you can get more forgiving, amateur friendly types. Albeit, without the fashionable bloodlines.

I think different breeding lines do have the potential to have traits that would make them less suitable for an amateur but I don’t necessarily think that all ‘well bred’ (whatever that means) are unsuitable.

For me amateurs should be looking at the horse in front of them, go for modest but correct gaits and a very good temperament. Then it’s down to their early training - if they are trained for and exposed to life then there is nothing to prevent them from being good amateur horses.

The problem is there is no financial return for people/producers to spend the time needed to produce an amateur horse on a more modest type/mover.

There’s an old thread on here somewhere that’s a really good read . some older and more experienced posters talking about certain lines and what they tend to throw.
Without doubt there are some lines that are quirkier than others and are more suited to the pros . It’s also worth noting that it’s not just about them being quirky. It can be the movement / Jump . Not everyone can sit / ride that .
But as with everything there’s always an exception to the rule .

If you take 2 stallions .. say Ramiro B and Graf . Graf has a reputation for being more of a pros ride . However Ramiro Bs rep is the total opposite.
I can only speak from experience with one Ramiro B . But know pros who have ridden multiple ones and they confirm it .
