Oh she'll be back.....no worries there! I don't understand why people let her upset them - I think all her replies are tongue in cheek.

I used to get a little upset by MCs posts, but I own up to often finding them amusing now. Not that I always agree with her but her predictable outspokeness/directness/overreaction/rudeness (depending on your opinion) sometimes does make me chuckle these days.

I can see that when directed at anyone feeling a bit vulnerable, or a newcomer, they are out of order.

Bad, bad poster MC. *wags finger" Enjoy your little holiday from HHO and I'm sure we'll all see you again soon.....

Although we may not recognise you straight away.....

Didn't know you could change your names, now how do I do it!!

If you want to just change it for Christmas there is a thread in suggestions and feedback, if you want to change it for good send a pm to tfc :)

I like your name though :D although I did wonder at the beginning whether you were a reincarnation of Yorkshire Dumpling  :D

I am sorry if I have upset some posters.. I was just wondering the views of other horsey people :( I have not seen another post about this.. Must have missed them

Do not worry AT ALL.

There is such a high turnover of posts on this forum, it's bound to be repeated at some point or other!

Personally I wear a hat, but my opinion is that it's their life, so let them get on with it. I also don't go with the '..but what about their families, the extra strain on the NHS if they mush their brain' argument either. Personal Choice.

At some point, someone will no doubt insist they wear hats all the time, but until then, live and let live. :D

Their head yes but its our NHS that picks up the pieces. I know serious accidents happen with hats on pbut I do think we need to fulfill our part of the bargain & take basic & reasonable precautions to look after ourselves.

Well said Rowreach and PeterNatt you bet me to it on that point.

OP - I agree, really can't understand why these people at such big public events ..ant for that matter, choose to ride without a riding hat on,

As Amage said, it is FEI rules at present so no rules issue.

To throw the proverbial cat amongst some pigeons, if you risk assessed how many times a show jumper has been injured having taken his or her hat off as they left the ring, I imagine it would come out as a very very low risk. I don't know of one having fallen off at that point.

At home they can do what they want but I think it should be compulsory at all shows to wear a hat. From a little local show to the big shows like olympia

You would think Tim Stockdale standing there in a neckbrace after falling off a horse (with a hat on!) would make them think twice, but clearly not.

Without getting embroiled in the "should they/shouldn't they wear a hat" argument - Tim in his neckbrace just goes to make the point that wearing a hat doesn't stop you fracturing your neck!

Surely helmets are designed to prevent head injuries; it is fairly obvious they would be unable to prevent spinal injuries and they are not sold on that basis! :)

My kids did comment when they saw some of the riders without hats. I feel that they should in public be seen to be wearing hats. I would have thought that Tim standing there in his neck brace would be making a point because without a hat he may not have been there at all.
I think that wearing a hat should just be normal like wearing a seatbelt, you get used to it .
I do think it should be in the rules, I dont want my kids thinking it is clever to be without a hat.

They dont wear hats because they think if you wear a hat when you dont have to it looks like you cant ride for some reason? No hat no insurance. Check it out. You have to pay a lot extra not to have to wear a hard hat when your riding. You can get insurance for this like when you go to on a ranching holiday but its a lot extra.

On TV or in other media and at shows I think all pro's should be seen to wear hats, as I believe it's very important to give young, impressionable and naive riders the impression that hats are normal and fashionable to wear.

At home I believe pro's should be able to make their own decision on the subject, as they know the dangers and risks, which is not the case when a teenager wants to look like he/she's as cool as a pro and doesn’t want to mess his/her hair up...

I've been knocked unconscious twice, and after one of those falls I suffered severe concussion where I couldn't recognise people (even my family) for a while. I was wearing a skull hat both times I fell and it's possible that saved my life, and at least saved me from becoming a vegetable! Both of my nasty falls happened in the ménage at home and I wasn't jumping, so I hardly anticipated any incidents happening on those days.

Well said, although public perception is a very powerful thing, IF professionals wore hats at public events and that action encouraged folk to wear hats it can only be a good thing. What they do 'off stage' is up to them.

I rode without a hat the other day and was severely told off by OH who sweetly reminded me that the worst injury I have ever had was whilst trotting around an arena on a 'safe' horse which tripped up and I managed to get squished between horse and area fence, I had a hat on that time.

So long as they only kill themselves and don't hurt their horses or anyone else it's their lookout. Their families and friends would no doubt miss them, but that's life.

(Last time I posted something like this, I got called black and blue for being mean - wonder if that will happen this time?:D)
