Just received the SWHP (Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies) newsletter in the post. there's an article on ragwort in it, stating that Professor Knottenbelt pulled ragwort for 3 hours with his bare hands and then blood tested himself to prove that it does get into the bloodstream... which it had. I can't think of many people who would do such a thing.
Does anyone know how we can nominate the man for a Knighthood? he really is an exceptional force for the Good of the Horse. *takes off hat to Professor Knottenbelt*

When I was at college we raised some money to go towards his research, met him when we took the huge cheque to him and I agree that he is simply fantastic at what he does. If I were wearing a hat I too would take it off to him!

That man is an absolute saint!

When we found Mo had cataracts, we took her to see him at Leahurst. He spent AGES with her. He's absolutely hilarious!! And he didnt even charge us - just used her to educate his vet students.

He's also been a godsend with a friends' liver-damaged horse. He's happy for her to email him him millions of questions and he's very quick to reply - sooooo helpful and VERY intelligent!

Deffo deserves a knighthood!

Agree with you Lou, the Prof has answered loads of mails from Sunnymum who has rescued Angel, who has 70% liver damage. He has even responded whilst abroad at a conference ! My baseball cap has just been doffed in his honour

no, seriously, he is right at the forefront of research into a lot of equine illnesses and afflictions, such as headshaking, sarcoids, cataracts, etc etc etc. he's head of the Uni of Liverpool's Equine Veterinary Dept, i believe. he is easy to get hold of (unbelievably, when i can't even get to talk to my own vet for 5 mins!), so approachable, so generous with his time, so knowledgeable... i am running out of superlatives here.
i think a letter to h&h to get a list of signatures to nominate him might be in order... anyone fancy writing it. can't be greedy now, can i?

He is brilliant! When I was a Robinsons Horsecare Advisor he gave us a lecture on wound healing (seriously bad wounds I might add!) - it was excellent, totally riveting. I've never met anyone so knowledgeable about so much in the equine world. I too doff my non-existent hat to him.

Maybe it would be nice if those of us that appreciate his good work make the effort of writing to Buckingham Palace and suggest they give him an M.B.E.

After all the Queen is very partial to horses and would love to hear of his good work.

definitely will add to the nominations

cured my mare's sarcoid about 8 years ago with one of his creams - right by her teats - bit awkward for a broodmare !!!

I'll write a supporting letter, he's such a special man, he allowed me to hang round with all his students all day and spoke to me as if I had a brain..
Our horse was one of his first when he developed the treatment for sarcoids and
the treatment of sarcoids has advanced so much thanks to him, and if you read his text book you will be amazed at the experience he has in other illnesses.

That man is a saint !!
He was very helpful when we found out that willie had Epilepsy. When he came up to dingwall a few years ago and we meet him face to face he remembered Willie and his story, he was very helpful again with new information about Epilepsy. He was very interested in willie and what types of fits he had and how it was manged. I must get round to writing to him to update him on willies story.

He is my mind as has been said above he's a Hero.

I am local to Leahurst, the work he does for are equines is fantastic,i think we should recommend him for a M.B.E,HES A LOVELY MAN.

He's fantastic!!! He has done work with my old pony and he's treating Inkys eyes at the mo!!!

Once when we went to Leahurst before the new yard, when you all had to cram into a small space, we had to unhook the trailer to turn it around as yard was full. My OH had a broken hand and we were struggling. He came out of the office and turned it for us!!!

Such a lovely man!!
