So my little scrawny bargain basement gamble has proven to be a diamond in the rough!
Last week I measured Prince at the 3 week of ownership mark and he's grown 2" in 3 weeks - gulp - going from 14:1hh to 14:3hh. He's like a gangly weed, I think he should have been called Ragwort!

He's bonded with me quickly and from day 2 he's greeted me with a whicker or a whinny. I had the saddle fitter out and got a saddle sorted for him. But until yesterday I didn't feel that the time was right for getting on board as he's been quite snorty and very on his toes.

But yesterday felt right, so I got on with help from my RI and he was fantastic. A few pictures from before I got him to yesterday.

Before I got him

Over the past couple of days.

This last picture my lovely RI saw and told me off for not concentrating on the horse! Ooops!

We did steering left and right, we did halt and walk on. Sooo proud of my boy.

Yesterday I had another major breakthrough with the little pony Blue. He actually enjoyed a groom. His eyes went all blinky and he leaned into me. Might not seen a lot - but that was almost more of a milestone than getting on Prince. He's only just started to lose his winter coat and I was really pleased to find his Butt Gutter was only winter coat. Happy days.
Blue last week x

How old is he? To have grown that much so quickly means he was seriously undernourished and backward which also means that although he looks well now, that growth has not consolidated yet so it is still forming. In your shoes, I would still give him a few more months turned away so he has time to finish his growing unhindered by being asked to work (and yes, even just walking about with you on him is work)
Looking good though.

Maesfen - he's 4 on 1st May. When I initially posted about him there was some speculation about his age. So I googled the first name on his passport and came up with a prosecuted cruelty case for starvation  A girl brought him back in June from Derby market then sold on to me 4 weeks ago.
The vet has been out and confirmed that his teeth are as old as his passport says he is.
I did have the same reservations as you regarding getting on - but the vet said it would be ok to do. However I will look up about the whole consolidating thing! Thanks for the heads up!
