God I hope I'm not tempting fate posting this. And OK she's on a heap of painkillers. And she's on the soft school surface. BUT I went out to hang a new haynet this evening and she turned and walked across the school with a really proper purposeful walk rather than a slow hobble/shuffle. I just stood there gaping with my mouth open - and then gave her a huge hug, much to her embarrassment :p , she so wishes I wouldnt go in for such overt displays of affection!

Its been 2 long long months. Today was the first time she's walked properly since the 1st September :D :D . Cant believe the change since yesterday!

Stupid old animal then spooked at a leaf and leapt in the air (my heart leapt about the same in case she hurt her feet but she looked OK afterwards - pheew).

I talked to the vet and am going to cut her painkillers down tomorrow and see how she is then (vet said cut in half and keep her on that for a week)

BIG worry now is the hunt are nearby next weekend and she is a raving nutter when they are around. I talked to the vet about giving her sedalin, but wonder if it will really work as she is SO demented when they are around (I'll obviously shut her in the stable, but she will pace/weave/sweat and doesnt get over it for about 2 days :( )

Sorry, pointless post, but I'm so hopeful she's really really on the mend now that I had to inflict it on you all :D .

Awwww I'm glad she's showing improvement :)

Hope she copes OK with the hunt. When my lad was in his previous home he apparently jumped a 6 ft fence and went with them when they came past!

Thanks! I keep just :D :D :D all the time! Just hope she doesn't do something stupid now she's feeling more mobile

Beckyx she's 15.2 middleweight and 3/4 TB so not really a little pony :)

Oh wow, that's determination for you (and sounds horribly similar to mine...)

I am so pleased for you. I know how much you have fretted over her.
My friend uses oxyshot, and swears by it. She uses it for things like bonfire night etc.
Might be worth looking at.

Glad to hear horsey is improving. I have since found out that the hunt is coming over my way (where are you?). My 28yo is an hunt horse (ex-wipper in) and have to make sure he's in his stable/on the yard with the radio on high to deafen the hounds and horn out....just an idea.

Oh good idea re the radio, mind you it will have to loud, I swear she can hear a poodle fart in the next county and thinks its the flippin hunt! :D I'm in Kent, so different area to you

Kellysheroes, so glad your girl is better too. It is such a relief isn't it, I really thought I was losing her for a while

Yeah the vet said to us they weren't sure what they could do for her :( but onwards and upwards hopefully for all of us!!
Can't believe about the hunt, I don't think Kel would know what on earth it was if it came through our fields!!

Confidence when moving is a good sign - the painkillers aren't that strong that they mask the soreness, just ease it a bit.

However, she's at a crucial stage of healing and I'd be getting her well and truly out of it for the hunt coming past. A relapse at this point would be devastating.

So pleased to see this post and have everything crossed for continued progress but I'm all nervous about next weekend!
