Boss has always been very prey driven and will chase anything that will cross his path, my little boy always wanted a cat but we put it off because we knew Boss would be a nightmare. Then I watched a bit of Cesar Millan and thought, maybe we could give it a go.... so we got two kittens and the training began. I'm pretty sure given the nod from me, he would have gobbled them up, luckily we had the worlds bravest tortie...

and I know it's a bit of a rubbish pic, but sharing a bit of meat from Boss' bowl, this is serious progress!!

Was inspired by a pic CAYLA posted of a cat aggressive dog sitting next to a lovely fluffy cat, thank you!! They are not exactly best mates but will have a little kiss on the nose in the morning, so there you, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Goof for you

I have questions!!
blush.gif
My cat (Sooty) lived quite happily with Sweep before Max arrived - now both of them chase Sooty given half a chance even though on the odd occaision Sooty has lamped them!
smirk.gif
Sweep will still let Sooty rub against him if Max isn't around though.

Anyway what I want to know is how do I go about them making friends without getting lacerated by a pissed off cat in the process?
confused.gif
Poor Sooty wants to come in the nice warm house and the dogs won't let him.
frown.gif

Or should I just have a word with Sooty and tell him to get himself a spine and beat the crap out fo both of them??

My tiny cat is the boss of this house. If he is sat in the doorway none of the dogs will pass to get through. Its quite funny really, but we have 2 other cats that my collie and jrt will chase if they are outside at the right time, but just a 'no' a the right time stops them in their tracks.

but he is a boy ! girlie kittens are so much more in your face! enjoy! the tortie will swipe him if he gets above his station! cats will rule! go on amazon and buy The silent miouw by paul gallico, all is explained!

Well, no idea if this is right but I basically kept Boss under control on a lead and let the cats have the run of the room around him, he was allowed to look but if he focused (that look that says they're about to go!) he was given a sharp correction. After about two weeks of doing this every evening, he just gave up! Sometimes I see that look in his eye but a quick verbal ah-ah is enough to remind him. I know if I asked him to he would still happily eat them but he has learnt to ignore them.... funny enough, they all share the same water bowl now too, the cats have their own in the kitchen but never use it, they prefer the dogs!!

I'm sure CAYLA will be able advise on the proper method!!

Yep, the tortie rules, I have never met such a confident cat, even as a tiny kitten she never took any s**t off the dog... took her to get a microchip and it took two nurses and a vet to pin her down with a big towel to get it in, she was only 12 weeks old!!

I'm sorry I'm chuckling at your pics you have made amazing progress, but I love the cattitude from the kitten and I just love your boys face and his ears.

My cats totally rule my 3 dogs x

Well done you! I can call the dogs of a running cat with voice (most of the time

), they will walk past on a loose lead, but that is about the height of it

They don't live in the house so it isn't such a big deal, and the blue one gave B a right bashing last week when he cornered her, he was mortified! But that will teach him.

You have the right approach, which is the right approach with any sort of fixation, a "look" (you know what I mean...) is met with vocal or lead correction, when his focus is back on you, reward, when he relaxes, reward.

Your kitten is awesome! Our old bitch used to let the cats climb all over her, and the tom would try and catch her tail when it wagged
