I know winter-to-summer can mean changes for a horse's condition but I just wanted to say I'm so impressed with Blue and how he's come on. I got him on long-term loan end of January this year. He's such a lovely boy and has settled so well with us. He's slightly lame at the moment so out of work, but soon will be building up topline etc (I realize we're not perfect quite yet!) So anyway, proud mummy moment!

If I hadn't seen a pic of him last summer before taking him on, I wouldn't have believed his color could change so drastically from winter to summer!!!

I absolutely love his golden color now!

LOL Box_of_frogs its not the keys you need to worry about, its the broken brakes!!! You can have a go on him any time, you can stop sneaking him treats to brainwash him into liking you better than me (jk jk)!

Thanks so much kovu, though I know his head can't have changed that much he looks so much better now that I think its easier to see what a nice head he has. :)

I unfortunately have far too much knowledge about the source of this horse and others. Suffice to say he is the one of the lucky ones in the world to have come to you.

Then again, if JP McManus knew the treatement one of his ex racers had received before he was so fortunate to arrive at your door, I guess the proverbial might hit the fan.

Feel free to contact me for more info.

wow!
Mosmum he looks like a different horse really well done you and in a short space of time in the scheme of things.

He is going to be a stunner when he starts to develop muscle, bet you can't wait to get started, fingers crossed he comes sound soon what is wrong with him?

Going by the post above and the photo of when you got him he has gone through a tough time, do you know any of his racing history?
I have an exracer I am bringing on who is a similar type, a lovely boy too and very rewarding, they can make smashing alrounders.

Thanks so much guys, I consider myself lucky to have come across Blue. He gives back so much more than I give him.

I don't know a whole lot about his racing history, I'm kind of ignorant about bloodlines and history and all that, but I know he's won a good amount of money, was bought from France and one of his jockey's was someone McCoy... I think perhaps 'Changes' knows more than I do on this?

He's only a bit lame, I think a bad bruise, we were out hacking, he spooked randomly and did a star-jump and went immediately about 5/10ths lame in his near fore. Had an x ray and nerve block and seen vet twice but they can't find anything wrong and he's much better now so hopefully nothing serious.

Should be right in no time then, my horse had deep solar bruising last summer it was infuriating he get on going to very lame then slightly lame on a circle to lame again, it took a while soon was right as rain but like yours the vet could not find anything, the farrier did in the end so it confirmed the diagnosis he found the black hoof and a little fluid but only after my boy was completely sound..

He is cracking keep us posted x

Thanks guys, I really just think he winters poorly, as many TB's can! This is a pic when still with his owner last Summer.

I have never come across a horse that 'winters poorly' that is otherwise healthy, in over 30 years. You can translate it as 'needs plenty of feeding but owner is too tight/poor/lazy to provide adequate forage, feed and rugs'. Most of the horses I have cared for or owned have been TBs.

I totally agree with this, when I was younger I used to work with polo ponies who were wintered out, the majority of them were Tb, some had to wear rugs some did not, they were all fed and hayed and all wintered well. My current boy is a poor doer but wintered well with ad lib haylage and fibre cubes.

So don't worry mosmum looking at the wonders you have done wity your chap your boy will be fine next winter :)
