i think TS is right though, one of the commentators did say that last-minute catch rides weren't allowed any more... could have been Mike Tucker though, he doesn't always get everything right!

Having sat there thinking about it (it's actually been wrecking my head all evening) was actually just about to edit my previous post to say the new entry requirement that Badminton has brought in i.e. that horse and rider to have finished in the top 25% of a 3* or top 50% of a 4* at some stage in their career would probably rule out catch rides as they would have had to achieve this as a combination???

What makes it so complicated is that there are the rules and then individual events can also introduce their own requirements on top of the rules!

Thought I'd post again as lots of people seem to be interested!

I emailed BE yesterday, had a reply back this morning - their efficiency and willingness to help are first class, so huge thumbs up to BE from me

Catch rides are still permitted; providing both horse and rider have qualified separately, then (to quote BE), 'horse and rider could come together two days before the competition starts and still compete'.

So there we go!
