Who prefers which one? My trimmer has suggested taking my lad off antilam and putting him onto progressive earth. Which looks to be triple the price of antilam.

My vet wanted my lammi pony on anti lam. I didnt agree with her at the time and I still dont. I did it. his feet deteriorated massively but he was having an acute laminitic attack so impossible to know if the Top Spec did that. Hes no longer here and the last of it went straight in the bin.

I would always, always choose Progressive Earth/Forage Plus/Equivita over Top Spec. There are different levels of Progressive Earth but knowing your dealing with a laminitic I would suck up the small extra cost and go for their laminitic balancer. I think it works out about £15 a month more expensive than Top Spec and is well worth it IMHO

Well the fact that the exact ingredients aren't easily available puts me off the TopSpec one right away. I want to know what I'm feeding, and therefore I need to know what all of the fillers etc are.

I've fed Pro Earth supplements for years, and I'm really happy with them; they are completely transparent about the ingredients.

I think you might find that the progressive earth actually works out the same or less - it's a powder, not a pellet for a start and even with a truly plain chaff, it's still comparable price wise. As Casey76 said, it's not easy to find the ingredients, and I'm pretty certain that when I looked into it all the antilam still had molasses in (or the equivalent). Progressive Earth worked for mine, and it's still my first port of call :)

Sorry op I read your title and just laughed. There is no comparison, topspec is full off cheap fillers and has molasses in it. Progressive earth is fab products

Loads of anecdotes reporting barefoot problems with Top Spec products. I wouldn't feed anything with that has added iron/manganese in it, most UK grazing is already too high in them.

Ive been feeeding pro balance for over a year now and am happy with it, the price etc.

It was suggested a friend by an equine professional try top spec, she in turn tried to encourage me to try it.
I considered it, tried to look for ingredients list but couldnt find one.
I came to the conclusion if they its that difficult to get hold of, then they may not want people to see it!

So im staying with Pro balance.

Another vote for Pro Hoof.

My horse also had laminitis whilst on Anti-Lam. Swapped to Pro Hoof a number of years ago and she's never been better - the farrier who has seen her through it all agrees. Fantastic product.

None of my horses would touch the pro hoof supp, even mixed in with tasty food. So they ended up having such a tiny amount I decided it wasn't worth it, although it lasted forever at the rate they would eat it.

I wouldn't feed topspec.

If you think you might have issue feeding a powder look at the equimins advanced complete too, it comes in pellet form so no need for a mixer. I did add mag ox and salt to that but that was because I knew we had grazing off the scale for calcium re. the mag ;).

pro earth don't include salt in their products because it shortens the shelf life I think, they suggest you add it separately.

However ixing assuming trying to avoid weightgain I would feed either fastfibre or agrobs leichtgneiss/aspero - the latter reformed my fussy eater!

Another hoof pro fan here, the cob's hooves have improved massively since he's been on it. I just feed it mixed in with oat chaff , a sprinkle of water and he devours the lot.
