Also in veterinary, but thought there might be more people on here who might have experience of this ...

We had to rush my youngster to the vet hospital last night with a massive nosebleed. They localized the bleeding as coming from the sinus area and think it is most likely progressive ethmoidal haematoma. They've led us to understand that if it's that, the long-term prognosis isn't great - anyone have any experience of this?

My OH's horse was diagnosed with this after unexplainable nosebleeds, the nose bleeds were never really heavy, just fairly random when they occured.
Horse was scoped and the mass found, his is in a slightly unusal position in the sinus but everything else - appearance/size etc pointed at an Ethmoid Haematoma so it was treated as one.
They inject/coat the mass in a formaldyhyde solution to try and "fix" it - like embalming - he's had 4 or 5 treatments over the last year - once a month for the first 3 months after diagnosis, them another 3 months later then the last just before the insurance year ran out, not that he really needed it, just as a precaution.
Horse does still have the occasional light bleed, but vet - a specialist in this field - isn't overly concerned about this.
The horse in question has never been out of work and has continued to compete, lower level BS without anty problems
