A friend of mine is trying to find a home for her 11yo 16.2hh tb mare, she has raced in past and friend used her as a hack, fine to ride traffic etc but not novice!

My friend has a small child and another on the way and basically unless the mare is homed she is off to potters.

Nothing wrong with mare sound and healthy but hasnt been ridden for 2yrs. She doesnt want hassle of getting her going and is 4mths gone.

Any ideas anyone, feel sorry that a healthy animal is being pts.

Actually she has, i cant remember off the top of my head but she has bred 2 winners.

Owner just hasnt had the inclination to get anything sorted and phoned me out of the blue today... Im not really in a position to have another as i have 4 allready. She would event or do anything really

If she has bred winners I think you can look them up on a website somewhere .. sorry I'm not into racing but I know a girl that works in a racing stud and they are always on the look out for well breed brood mares.

Have just contacted owner.

Mare is called Cavern Breeze. Unraced.

Produced Cheifly Flyer 1st 3 times flat and hurdles and 3rd at cheltenham.

Other Foal is Jastahni (sp) has been placed.

Owner had the mare before the horses did well as stud didnt realize she was going to breed winners

Is it worth the owner contacting a bloodstock agent to see what the mare is worth as a broodmare before giving her away as a hack? Or even contact the stud she came from who might now be interested in having her back?

Just checked her out on the Racing Post website and she is very nicely bred. Her 2 offspring - Jastaanhi and Cheveley Flyer both raced and have done reasonably well. Shame if a mare with her breeding and success rate as a brood mare ends up at Potters.
