Little project pony has been coming along so well now, had him nearly 3 weeks
He is sound at last having had most of his feet trimmed away bless him, although still a little footy on stony ground. Have been having to build the bridle around his head as he absolutley hates it going on, and he is getting better and better. Other than that he has been a little star. I am riding him now following lots of lunging and waiting for his feet to recover. He is losing weight I think too. Took him for a hack round our xc course and tracks with BF on foot just in case and he was as good as gold. he loved being out. We had a trot and our first canter and he was lovely - rushed into it as you would expect for an unbalanced baby but canter none the less, and pulled up nicely
I had a play around in the school yesterday and he was going so well in walk and trot, I even trotted him over a couple of teeeeeeeny weeeeeeeeeeeeny jumps just for fun and he loved it. Only issue is canter now - Apparently the reason he was 'dangerous' hence how i got him, was that in canter he would just stop and bronc and the kids would fly off! He tried that yesterday but it was quite funny really. He managed canter down the longside but i think he panicked a little as we got to the corner, slammed the breaks on and turned into a rocking horse
think he just needs to know that a) that will not work and im not coming off!! and b) get a lot more balanced and steady so he can go round a corner!!! So will be practising lots of lunging and sticking to the canter in open spaces til he gets a bit more balanced!!!
He really is a sweetie and is coming along better than I thought!! I will get some ridden piccies at the weekend to show you
Then soon I need to start hunting for a nice home for him before I get too attached!! (non horsey bf is already v attached to him and wants to keep him - er nooooooo!!bless
)
Wow that was long (and boring!!) SORRYYYYYYY
ETA while waiting for piccies look at the ones of lauras herbie they could be twins
