Somebody came to try out my horse today and wants to get him vetted (which is fine) as she is worried about his prominent croup bone. Why? I have googled it and all I get back points to lack of condition, which is definitely not his problem.

He is a TBxW and has always had it. His work is varied between dressage, jumping and hacking but mainly dressage ..... if this helps.

Does anybody elses horses have this, or does anybody out there know if it may be a problem on vetting. He has never been lame in the 5 years I have owned him and the back lady has never mentioned it as an issue.
 
Do you mean croup high.Both my horses are croup high tb and welsh cob.I think it affects their conformation but shouldnt be a problem.
 
I think I know what you mean. It's called a jumper's bump sometimes, I think. My TB has always had one, even when he was younger and more muscled. Never bothers them as far as I can tell.
 
Minnies_Mum - yes, that's what she called it, jumper's bump. I had never heard of it.

Cellie - No, I didn't mean croup high. It really is just a sort of bone that sticks up. As he's always had it, I've never questioned it as being "not normal".
 
The below has been cut and pasted from an H&H article ... in case anybody was wondering!! Now I'm quite happy and wish I'd known about it earlier.

In a fit, lean horse the jumper's bump region may appear unusually prominent, but this is just normal anatomy not masked by excessive fat. It doesn't mean that the horse has a problem.
 
A jumpers bump is called that because all the seriously tallented jumpers seemed to have one back in the good old days!! so be proud of your horse's promient croup it is the sign of an agile athlete!!
 
Jumpers bump isnt normally anything to be concerned about. It can sometimes be due to Sacroliac probs, but generally is just confirmation.
 
my horse is croup high and it does not seem to bother him at all
