Silly post really but it tickles me how some horsey people pronounce things. For example 'equilibrium' has been said as equeleeeebrium and chaff as charrrrff and neue schule as newer shooooler maybe im just weird, so how do you pronounce things?

If I'm not sure how to pronounce a word I just slur through it and hope someone corrects me.

If I want to say Neue Schule, I just say 'New S.....' and someone usually chimes in and saves me ha.

I have real trouble with sacroiliac, I still don't know how to say it.

.

now I never thought of trying that!! haha horse breeds are another one that make me laugh, yesterday I heard some say they have a thorowwwbreed in a posh voice! have also heard I have an andylushion haha

MY OH thought a martingale was called a nightingale :)

My mother loves the word numnah so much she calls everything horsey a numnah, she called my jods numnahs the other day, but she says it really weirdly like 'num-narr' as well haha, bless.

I'm never sure if laminae is lamin-eye or lamin-ay!

But I know neue schule, as I studied german - its 'n.oi.er sh.oo.ler' :D

Ha ha my Mum wouldn't even know the word numnah!

Last year she phoned me whilst me and OH were at Burghley watching the XC, the conversation went:-

"Where are you?"
"Burghley watching XC Mum"
"What's Burghley?"
"Its a big 3 day event for horses Mum"
"Oh I'll let you get on then, hope Chester is a good boy and you do well ...."

I have not even done a BE90 yet .... :)

I always worry about words with a C in them - like "sarcoids" and "surcingles". I'm never sure if it's a hard k sound or an s sound. To me it seems very alien to say "sur-kingles" I usually say "sur-singles" or, even better, "straps"! :D

My son thought "martingale" was a person - Martin Gale!! He looked really confused when I asked him to get me one.

you get some interesting variations on trakehner ime... And all the ponies suffering from laminitus

Oh another one that cropped up the other day, I always just say cavesson as its written, but I was talking to someone and they said Ca - VESS - on, with real emphasis on the middle bit and it took me ages to understand what they were saying, which way is correct?

Also how do you say Trakehner? I think I say it Trak-a-ner? I don't know now I've looked at it for too long :D.

I say cavesson as it is and Trakehner 'trak-ay-ner' :)
