Am looking at a horse *hopefully* this Thursday which has previously (so i've been told) competed abroad at up to 1.40m. How can i be sure this is correct? Like what proof should i be looking for? I know over here we have the BSJA is there anything similar they do abroad where i will be able to find out it's record and how well it did at competing?

Is the horse already BSJA registered? If so the BSJA may already have a record of overseas winnings to allocate the correct money on it's card. If not worth bearing in mind that without the overseas winnings confirmed a default amount will be added by the BSJA based on age at import time?

Which country did he come from?

Depending on where he has come from you can contact the local governing body. They will require registered name, chip number and stud book number to verify him though. As Burtie says though, the BSJA may already have done this for him....if not, then if he's over 7yo he'll be classified as a Grade A. Check in his passport, and if it has been overstamped by the BSJA you will know

To be honest i don't know much about it. It was mentioned to me on Friday but i'll hopefully be able to have a chat about it and see what its like Thursday evening so will have lots of questions then. (Re my post in new lounge about 'What would you do with this horse?') At the moment its not up to much competing wise so i'd want some form of proof that it was actually competing at that standard before it came here! Hmm well with any luck will check it out Thursday and give an update then!

What country was he competed in? For example in Poland you have the Polish Equestrian Federation and Regional Offices. All horses must be registered in order to compete in anything 'proper'. There is no such thing as annafiliated competition but there are regional amatours shows. They however rarely go any higher than 1.20m. I would think, if he competed at 1.40m there will be possibilities to track it down.

I dont think it would matter what country he was coming from he should have a Passport even if its not an FEI passport he would need something like that, I cant imagine a show that has 1.4m classes not be recognized and therefore there should be records. If there isnt I would question them about it.
