Hey everyone,

Just a quick question really, when youve bought a horse, you send the passport off to the issuing authority, if your horse is micro chipped you get that changed into your name aswell, but what else is there to prove that your the new owner? I know this may sound silly and a bit of a stupid question. But I bought my mare on monday, I have her passport and im going to get her microchip put into my name etc aswell. As shes a tb (ex racehorse) her passport is with wetherbys so im going to ring them tomorrow to see what happens etc and to expect the passport (recored delivery) etc.

But what else is there to say that she is mine? I have recipts etc for her from the owner who I bought her from. Is that it? Because I know that people say that a passport isnt proof of identity??

xx

ive just looked again on the passport and it doesnt have any owners info on it? It has the breeders name and her microchip number etc but not the owners details? like Gypsys last one did?

Passports are NOT proof of ownership. You need a Bill of Sale / Reciept from the seller describing the horse and stating who the seller is and who the purchaser is, how much was paid, when the purchase was completed and you both sign it.

What spaniel said ^ :D

In mine (WPCS passport) Theres a change of ownership bit at the front and her old owners signed them, ive also got a change of ownership contract starting that shes not to be bred from so i think giving that her old owners signed it, and stated the sale, thats proof of ownership :)

Like montyforever I also have a WPCS passport that has a change of ownership section inside, does this count as proof of ownership (as spaniel said that passports weren't proof of ownership.) So are WPCS passports different? Even though I have a receipt signed by both parties I'm still interested to know whether the passport alone can be used as proof

Ahh right okay lol. Well I do have a recipt from the seller, I have two (one for the deposit and the other for the other amount I paid when I bought her) Which is dated and signed with Maisies name on etc.

Is this good enough??

he micro chip on a tb's passport is to prove the horses's breeding - not ownership. You can write your name and address on the passport but no need/point in sending it to wetherby's.
