My friends pony has just been diagnosed with bad anaemia, we have been advised to put her on a iron supplement. I can get it through work but can't get red cell, which one of these is better?
In humans oral iron works best if taken until iron levels build up and then you are given erythropoetin to induce the production of red cells - speeds up the process hugely!
I have always used Red Cell. Recently used Propell as couldn't get hold of Red Cell. It was ok but didn't quite "hit the spot" I was recommended Haemagen (equine america). That most certainly worked. It is expensive (£34) but it really worked. If your friends pony is very low then I would most certainly go for the Haemagen.
We start feeding all my lot with propel at the beginning of the winter, started at the beginning of October this year and stop it when the grass comes through.
