Prophets thumb print..?

Does anyone really know much about these...?
My horse has three on his neck which are quite obvious.
I understand they are meant to be lucky but not too much else...?
Would be nice to know the old wives tales if anyone knows..?

meant to be a lucky sign or a sign of a fast horse, would love to know the story too?

According to Summerhay's Encyclopaedia it is believed by some Eastern races to be a sign of great luck to an owner and his horse is in consequence, greatly treasured! That's all I've got, sorry but a yearling here has one too!
 
I dont know if Toms is a sign of luck-its right on his forehead, exactly where he would be shot

Its all to do with the phrophet Mohammed.

He was traveling with his people across the great dessert and they ran out of water, after many days they finally came across a oasis in the sand.

The phrophet let all the horses go so they ran towards the water, just as they got a couple of metres from the water the Phrophet called them back.

All those that returned without drinking the water were blessed by the Phrophet by putting his thumb mark on them. Any horse these days that has them (its like a dent in the neck or chest area - anywhere else and its not a true one) is a decendant of one of those loyal horses.
 
Def thumbprints....they are clear definations of indented prints on his lower side of neck, top of chest and right side of neck.
He is also a palomino quarter horse. At first I thought there was a problem, he had had an accident in his past life but vet confirmed def thumb prints...hopefully that makes him a very lucky horse as I want to show him next year :0)
 
My mare has a mark like that on her windpipe but my physio and vet have always said that she must have had an accident as a foal as its actually damage to the muscle over her wind pipe. its a bit freaky as u can feel the cartilage rings.
 
Ellie has one on her shoulder. Yes she is fast but I was also told that they were caused by muscle damage.

My pony has one too he is certainly not fast, the old wives tale i was told by my vet is that when they are foals and in the womb the hind leg rests on the neck therefore causing the indentation!! Not sure how true that it is but kinda makes sense.

its not a thumb print you see, it fits the palm of my hand in it!! Hes irish not arabian or part bred arabian but he IS greatly treasured

On his shoulder - like I said I can put my entire palm in it it's that big, vet said its the same as a prophets thumbprint but just unusually large. Doesn't affect him at all.
 
I hate to disappoint you all but all of those I can make out in the photo's are most likely down to muscle damage at some point in horses past

Vet assures me it is not muscle damage and having seen a picture of him a few days old with the same mark (though a lot less obvious as less developed muscle) I can assure you it is what he was born with - aka prophets thumbprint
 
mine has got a prophets..um...wrist print on his hindquarters. Assume its a birthmark of some sort, or remnants of an event that happened when he was in utero. It used to be so deep you could fit your hand in it but now he has muscled up, it sticks ouy..is bit odd.
 
Chex has one on his neck, fits my thumb perfectly. He is very fast (for a 14.1 cob!), but I would struggle to believe he has any arab in him LOL

Im sure too that it is not muscle damage....I bought charly as a three yr old and there was no history of him ever having problems...
Love the stories everyone - really brought a smile to my face to think Mohammed may of touch one of the decendants of charly....
I was told by my mum that apparently a cat layed on the arm of prophet mohammeds fur coat and rather then waking the cat he cut off the arm of his coat !!
