The League's impending prosecution of the Quantock Staghounds is exactly how the Government intended the law to work.

Although technically it applies equally to The Hunts and other dog owners, most people can and do simply ignore the Hunting Act.

All dog owners are meant now to stop their dogs flushing out wild mammals, how many do?

None.

Except The Hunts because they know only they will be targeted.

The Hunting Act was always meant to be used to persecute a particular minority group.

Who you are is the relevant factor not what you do.

The Government has no right to demand our respect for the law when they show such little respect themselves by passing such illiberal legislation.

I am going to set my dogs after deer this weekend in protest at the staghound's prosecution.

I have nothing to fear from the Hunting Act; just because I use dogs to chase deer, nothing will be done because I am not a toff in a red coat.

By the by...I used to work for a big supermarket chain and we used to get prosecuted if the fruit and veg were incorrectly labelled. The bloke with the market stall didn't. The gov't would say its setting an example, I would say that its taking on those who will be able to pay, anf ignoring those who can't. Labour don't need to do the dirty work when they have LACs to do it for them - and so well funded, too.

Well said,Clodagh! LACS are really the poodles of the NL establishmentt, and a government which has already failed in all its important tasks. As for the 'Hunt Monitors'...words fail me! The sort of people who would go and spy on their fellow citizens for money, and some even without being paid...these are the misfits which come to the top when the dirty water is stirred!

I'm not keen on stag hunting. I wouldn't ban it, as I see that it benefits the species as a whole, but I won't go again. The stag is a beautiful creature to see humiliated and brought low. (I know - shouldn't give animals human emotions, but still).
