Protective car cover when carrying bales

I ferry bales of straw, one at a time, in the luggage compartment of my VW Passat Estate. As a result the back of the car looks like a barn! Please, can anybody advise me on how to transport hay/straw without leaving half of it woven into the carpeting. I have dog protector covers for the front and back seats, but can one get 'liners' for the rear of the car. Or are there such things as 'bale bags'? Any advice gratefully received.
 
I use a rubble sack. It came from B&Q, about seven quid I think. It actually carries two bales quite happily so if I'm only carrying one I wrap it around to stop the stuff escaping!

Works really well as it has handles, so you can either put it in the bag first before lifting it into the car, or have it in the car and put the bale in that way.
 
You can get bale bags that will take a full sized bale. I have one, although can't remember where it came for. I had one before, which I think was from Robinsons, which wasn't full size.
 
I have an old plastic tarpaulin, which exactly lines the inside floor of the car when all seats are out, and goes part way up the backs of the front seat.

I can put 12 bales in, and take them out, then shake all the hay off the tarpaulin into a hay net, and the only hay removal I have to do is off the window ledges.

You can buy boot liners, but fear they are quite expensive, a sheet would do.
