I have had the vet to see my gelding as he got covered in sticky, yellow, wet, scabby lumps on his body, it coincides with moving to a new paddock which has (in my humble opinion) far too much grass. The lumps seem to be less now and drying up. The vet said they are protein lumps caused by a high protein level in the new pasture. His guts can't cope with it, so it comes through his skin?! He is fine in himself albeit a bit itchy. The vet said he will build up a tolerance to the proteins and as the weather gets colder, the proteins will reduce in the grass. That said, I still have a few concerns... once he builds up the tolerance to cope with the extra proteins, will his guts manage as per normal? And should I be concerned about his feet/laminitis? The vet did check his feet and pulses but all is ok at the moment, although I am extremely worried about this

If there is too much grass, then limit his intake by bringing him in if you have a stable. It's the time of year when the grass is doing all sorts of weird things due to the weather.

oh yes, thank you, that's already been planned for, and he will be on short days out from now on as he's never got the hang of a muzzle!
