Protexin Gut Sponge

Has anyone tried it? My old mare has an annual problem of faecal water syndrome once her hay increases. It makes her uncomfortable, although she eats and drinks normally. I like Colligone but she wasn’t keen on the powder and it didn’t seem to work as well as the liquid did.

I've used it and it did help initially, I used it alongside their Gut balance, which it what I've kept using (alongside Brewers yeast). I think the Gut Sponge is mostly intended as a short course of supplement to calm the hind gut and help it rebalance (hence the GB too), though you can then give an ongoing maintenance dose.
My old boy has almost year-round FWS in his old age (started in his early 20s), mostly linked to grass (so quietest mid-winter) - from all my reading there seems to be a lot of different possible causes/factors for the symptom of FWS. My approach was to systematically work through all the recommended supplements/approached (ie only change one thing at a time and give each the recommended period to see any improvement). I tried some really blinkin' expensive treatments/supplements before I found that cheap as chips Brewers Yeast and affordable Gut Balance worked for him!!
Feeding feed grade straw as a percentage of forage can also help give the hind gut something very bland and productive to do, worth reading about to.

Thanks for replying. She won’t eat Brewers Yeast, i’ve tried It’s so frustrating, she’s so fussy, I can’t even get her to eat a joint supplement. She’s usually ok with Protexin so will try it I think.
