Protexin - probiotic, and Ruggle-it

My friend has used Ruggle-it with great success on her horse for mud fever and sweet itch and I have used it on my cats (cut on paw), in-law's dog (paw chewing) and also myself (dry skin)! The lady that runs the website, Karen Ruggles, is very helpful and knows a lot about natural health. There are also loads of testimonials on her website for Ruggle-it and Protexin (I have only used Ruggle-it - haven't tried the probiotics but they have very good reports. Website is www.karenruggles.co.uk

STOP VIRAL MARKETING.

Both Astral_Equines and Officecat have only ever posted about Karen Ruggles stuff and YOU angelbones PMd me about it, so don't pretend you 'are just about to try it'!! Hang on, I'll copy the PM you sent me.

Right, this is the PM I got from angelbones after I had been posting about my horse with persistent diarrhea (which incidentally has been cleared up by the stuff recommended by silverliningherbs.co.uk - not that I feel the need to post about it every 5 minutes!!). Admittedly angelbones may not have tried the stuff YET, but come off it, the other two have to be something to do with the company. Angelbones I apologise if you were only trying to help me, I am just irritated beyond belief by the number of nonsense posts springing up on here to advertise some product or other! Everyone else can make their own mind up...

Hi,

I was just talking to a lady called Karen Ruggles about a pony I have who suffers from terribly itchy skin amongst other things, and we came onto the subject of Protexin, which she knows an awful lot about. I told her about your horse and she said to get in touch with you and urge you to try the Protexin and the Quick Fix Paste as she felt convinced that you would have nothing to lose and would definitely see a big difference in your horse in 30 days. She also was very adamant that molasses (0ften hidden in foods) is very bad for all sorts of ailments.

Anyhow, the purpose of this PM having re-read your post and seeing that you have indeed tried the above, is to say that she said that should you wish to contact her for any advice / suggestions / useful contacts then she would be glad to speak to you. This may or may not be of any interest / help to you but no harm in making a suggestion I thought!

Her website is: www.karenruggles.co.uk

She is not allowed on the forum as she is a manufacturer or she would have read your post herself.

Just hoping that something I could do would be of some help to you.

All the best x

What on earth is going on??

I was told about an article in (i think) the BHS mag about the Ruggle-it stuff and emailed the lady with my pony's problems, and she rang me and we had a very long and helpful chat about the stuff, and as said in my PM to you Spotted Cat, we discussed your problem as I had only just read it on the forum. I sent you a PM about it purely as I hoped it may be of help to you, nothing more. My post on the forum asking if anyone else had used it was at the beginning of last month - how has this come back up at this stage? I posted as I wanted to see if anyone had any views before I shelled out over £120 for the Protexin and the Ruggle-It. I don't know why you are suddenly jumping all over it, or accusing anyone, after all this time? I did buy the stuff and have been using it for nearly 2 weeks now - not a lot of say about it as for my pony it is the wrong time of year for her baldness and itching but am hoping to see an improvement after 'loading' her in the run up to the Spring when she is bad. Incidentally if you want to go all the way back through my previous posts you'll see that i had posted before about the same pony, with pictures of her balding face, asking for help.

I have NEVER met Karen Ruggles, or have NOTHING to do with her company or the Protexin product. I also do NOT know the other people who posted on the subject.

Crikey, I try to be helpful and now this...great. If I had wanted to advertise a product on here why would I have sent you a PM - as in PRIVATE message and not just added my bit to your other thread? If everyone started posting their PMs on the open forum then soon nothing would be sacred. Having read my PM again, I really see no hard sell stuff in there, hardly trying to convert someone over to something.

Spotted Cat I missed any post from you regarding your horse's updated condition which is a shame as I was genuinely interested to see how you were getting along. I am glad it appears to be resolved.

No Persephone you are not gullible. It wouldn't occur to me to check what other people have posted about in the past, I would just read their reply and take it at face value. I don't know what has kicked off here, over something I posted about nearly a month ago, but I assure you that my post was a genuine enquiry and I have nothing whatsoever to do with either the other people who replied, or the products mentioned, and I was grateful to you for replying at the time. Sorry about all this. What a shame and a mess.

Angelbones - I apologise - but I also stand by what I say about Officecat and Astra-Equines who have managed to post only about Karen Ruggles, which makes me highly suspicious.

The reason your PM made me suspicious I'm afraid is because regular users, can, and do, make product recommendations on open forums - there's nothing in Ts&Cs against it, it is completely legitimate behaviour. However there are companies out there who employ people/encourage their marketing divisions to PM users with their 'recommendations' - so they cannot get caught for viral marketing on the open forum.

Look at it from my point of view - you PM me some weeks ago about this stuff, saying you don't want to post on open in case it is seen as advertising (or words to that effect), then you post on open asking about the same products, and some of the first responses you get are from 'new users' who have both only posted to say they think said products are marvellous. Yes, I am cynical that neither of them have anything to do with the company!

Don't take it to heart Angelbones

We do get a lot of it I'm afraid.

I have learned something anyway, because I didn't know Probiotics could make a difference to itchiness!

I use it for Gastric Ulcers alone.

Welcome to the forum anyway

Thanks Persephone,

I have no idea if Protexin will help with the itchiness itself, just that the thought process was that the pony's immune system etc was at a real low due to an extended period of meds, supplements, antibios etc and that her skin would erupt unduly at any sign of stress, and whatever is irritating her and that if we could get her gut more balanced we may find that she is able to fight off things better herself. And lets face it, after all the money I've thrown at this from the start a few years ago, I really felt I had little to lose. Grasping at straws maybe, but hopefully not doing any either!

Spotted Cat - I contacted Karen Ruggles re her shampoo, not the Protexin that I contacted you about. She suggested the Protexin to me as she felt that my pony's itchy skin could be being made worse by bad internal imbalance. She also made a point of saying that I could use any type of Pro/pre biotic but that Protexin was good and that I could get it on the internet or from my vet, she did not do a hard sell on me.

It was during that conversation I casually asked her if she was on this forum - and her reply was that no, she couldn't go on as she was a manufacturer (of the shampoo, not the Protexin), and so I told her about your post which I had read earlier.

This phone call was during the later evening, and then I firstly contacted you as I was excited that she may have something that could help you, but upon re-reading your post I saw that you had already tried Protexin (as I said in my PM) so went on to say that this lady had offered you the opportunity of calling her for any advice / further contacts which may be of help to you. I can't see in what way this is seen as pushing a product or even advertising. I also do not see how any of my PM to you can be seen to say that I did want to post on the open forum for fear of advertising. There is reading between the lines and there is completely rewriting what someone has said. I then posted my own enquiry about the shampoo / Protexin, nothing more complicated than that.

I also offered to send another used a sample of chaff after she posted about having trouble finding something suitable. The user took me up on the offer and it has sorted out her problem. Does that make me a secret agent for Dodson & Horrell? You yourself named the company that you got the herbs from that have helped your poor horse - does that make you guilty of pushing their product? Honestly, it is a sad day when people just trying to enquire a product, or make suggestions to others based on their own experiences are then openly criticised on this forum for doing so. Not everybody has a hidden agenda.

I do accept your apology but really feel very put upon unnecessarily. I'll just put it down to experience and keep my head down from now on.

The issue of publishing PMs on here really sits badly with me.

Spottedcat - I am sorry you feel that my response to Ruggle-it is suspicious. The only reason that my only posts have been about Ruggle-it are because it is a product I (and others I know) feel strongly enough about and have used with much success. I would never post something on here that is untrue. As I said in my post, I can't vouch for Protexin because I haven't tried it. I thought my recommendation might help someone out but it seems that posting a response to a problem only encourages abuse from someone like you and so I will not be adding any further comments. I have not posted on many forums before and will certainly not be bothering in future.
