Hi all,
Last week some barbed wire found its way into our paddock and my horse got caught in it, cutting a deep gash around her pastern/fetlock area. It has been treated by the vet and is healing well, but cant be sutured because it's on a joint. Question is, has anyone every tried using steristrips on a horse to hold a wound together without stitches? Would it work? and would hold the edges together prevent proud flesh forming?
Thankyou!
xx

Sorry, don't know about steristrips but I would have thought there would be too much movement (and hair unless shaved) for it to work.

Re proud flesh, the best thing I've ever used for awkward cuts (some deep wire cuts etc) is Equaide.

Here' the link http://www.equinefirstaid.co.uk/

I have no interest (personal or prof) in the produce / company by the way. Its just great stuff, keeps the dirt out, easy to use, and no proud flesh. I wouldn't use anything else and always have a pot in the fridge just in case.

It looks really good! Thanks for your help. Do you think it would work as a preventative measure or do you tend to use it to treat proud flesh?
