The cream they use keekee is copper sulphate. But you really have to know what you're doing with it as it works by "burning" off the proud flesh so (a) if you get it on your own skin it will damage it and (b) if you get it on the newly healing skin round the edges of ned's wound, you can make the situation worse! But your vets should be happy to show you carefully how to apply it and let you do it for a few days, then come back to re-assess. It might be worth asking them.

My vet gave me copper sulphate powder and told me to mix a little bit with savlon. He also said to put a thick layer or vaseline the good skin round the proud flesh to stop it getting burnt. You need to be very careful. Where was the injury?

Honey
Camrosa for home treatments.

There is such a cream from a vets, but cant for the life of me remember the name of it! Sorry

Manuka honey is meant to help prevent more proud flesh. When my pony had a problem with proud flesh the vet gave me a copper sulphate solution to use..
Keekee...whereabouts are you?.. I tried to PM you but you're not accepting them..

Yes, it's a steroid cream called Betnovate, absolutely brilliant stuff. The vet had to cut a tiny piece of proud flesh from my filly's leg and then gave me the cream to put on each time I changed the dressing (every 2/3 days). I used it for about a fortnight and by then the leg was healing beautifully on its own.

My friend's TB injury was right on his hock joint. The copper sulphate has worked a treat and the horse is now enjoying a couple of hours out per day with an "old gits" group where he can thunder round without provoking a free for all where he could get kicked again!

If its the same as what my boy has just been through have you tried Potassium permanganate from the chemist. He had a kick to the inside of his leg and the flesh granulised together, so the flap of skin was protruding outwards, it was not growing back flat against the bone. I made up the solution, which is a sort of acid and strong disinfectant and within a few days new hair was growing back and the skin was starting to heal properly and become flat. Hospitals use the solution to help people with skins infection and dermatological problems. It sounds scary I know but it worked for us, keep the wound really clean and healthy. Hope this helps.

I've used a copper sulphate on one of mine (from the vets) to prevent proud flesh. Worked really well. Think it was called Lotagen.
