My 8 year old rode in his first show yesterday and won 2nd place!

LOL, it was only the Easter bonnet class at a local stable (he dressed up as a yellow Easter chick in honor of the chicks we hatched last month) and I led him but he tried so hard and sat up straight, thumbs to the sky and heels down. Hattie was a saint too for putting up with cut out eggs on her (especially the one on her head!).

I'm really proud as he's never really wanted to do anything riding wise (lack of boys around I think, he DOES notice that not many boys ride) and doesn't have much confidence with when he does (the pony we have as a companion to Hattie is old and set in her ways so can be a very stubborn, even for an experienced rider) so hopefully this will have sparked his interest a bit more as he wanted to do this and enjoyed it.

My 8 yr old son has riding lessons over at the yard and I think he is the *only* male that rides there Although there are blokes there they tend to be father/partner and you only see them mucking out or soaking hay. A shame really

Aww what a great costume and a wonderful outcome. You are right to be proud what a great day

I'm sure he will really enjoy eating the egg

What a lovely post. I wish all parents were satisfied by their children's small achievements. I'm sure this goes a long way towards giving children the confidence to go on to greater things.
We were really pleased yesterday by the 15 riders who came to our RC Easter Bonnet comp & ride which we advertised as 'suitable for lead-rein' all had good manners and there were several proud parents
