So we did some trailer training with Jay today. We collected him in our trailer in June, but he was kind of chivvied on and then subjected to a 2.5hr drive in torrential rain.
So we decided to start from the beginning. A few weeks ago we let him follow Manni through the trailer and stand on it etc, and he was great after a hesitant start.
But today, we didn't let him follow Manni, we just led him to the ramp (with the front ramp down and no breast bar) he went on, stood, had a carrot and came off. We did this about 3 times, then put the bar in, gently shut the rear ramp, more carrots, shut the front ramp and the top window - all the while my daughter was at the jockey door talking to him and giving him bits of carrot. He was a star - a little neervous but did nothing silly.
So then we drove him down to the village, around the loop and home again - only about 2 miles. I didn't feel him move at all. Unloaded him at home, few more carrots and then loaded him again - he went on straightaway again. Unloaded him, fed him and turned him out.
So so pleased with him today. I think that's a great start to his trailer training.
